cbass,
That's the same scenario I had--when I was about 20 the doc cut the two upper ones out. It wasn't a big deal. I had very little pain and the recovery was fast (if I recall, I was out partying that same night).
These lower two were something else though. They were "well rooted" according to the doc. They were also growing forward at an angle and not up.
mr_hankey,
Get them done while you are young. The teeth aren't as developed, you heal faster, and it is generally easier. And, get them all done at the same time--go through it once and be done with it.

Get well soon!
I had all of mine (impacted) surgically removed in the hospital when I was in my 20's. I was given a Sodium Pentothal drip, told to count backwards from 100. I made it to about 98 when my arm went ice cold and I was formulating the thought to cry out "Something is wrong!" when everything became fuzzy and incoherent with odd shapes hovering over me ..... the light was all different ..... the room was different ...... very, very disconcerting experience. I didn't realize it ....... but it was many hours later, the operation was done and I was in the recovery room. It was as if NO time had passed. I'd previously considered it impossible for consciousness to obtain a state of complete nothingness ...... but by golly, Sodium Pentothal does just that. I hope I never need it again.

I had two wisdom teeth pulled in the Marines at the same time, packed the sockets with gauze and sent back to work.
My lieutenant said WTF happened to you corporal? He called the Navy dentist, some Jag officer, and chewed his ass for poor treatment of one of his Marines

Sent me to my rack to suffer alone with no meds. Finally got over it a few days later. We were told to suck it up, but man it hurt

I remember a story my Dad told me when he was in the Korean war, he started to have his wisdom teeth removed right before lunch. Dentist didn't finish in time and left for the mess tent and said, "we'll finish after lunch". Dad being the tough guy he was, said what the hell and went for lunch too. Said his mouth was so numb he couldn't eat anything, the food just spilled out... Yes, dentist finished after lunch!
Re: Miles
Mine was the same - late 20's - dude had to chisel out the teeth and bone with what I thought was a standard wood chisel - hurt like hell....Old man dentist then goes to tell me in 30 years he had never seen ones bad as mine.Well, it has been four week
Just get through it - it will go away
It took me 6-7 weeks before I could start eating solid food again - trust me - thats about as long as this can possibly go on in the worst of worst cases.
BTW - I recall painkillers that were applied to the area were more effective than generals - but thats a bit of redneck doctory and voodoo.

Wait, you wake up, and still have pants? I'm always told that they got blood on them, and they took them off as a biological hazard.Blackburn wrote:Even worse when you've got on DIFFERENT pants!

true story -I went to a new dentist to make an appt for a standard cleaning.Wait, you wake up, and still have pants? I'm always told that they got blood on them, and they took them off as a biological hazard.
He prescribed ANAL antibiotics that I take beforehand. Then he warns me - 'theres some strong stuff in there - itll make your ass hurt'.
I never went back to him.

Whoa - anal antibiotics??? I've heard of anal laxatives. Never antibiotics, though. Definitely time for a new dentist.
The words dental and anal should never go together in the same sentence.
