Man o man, I knew I would leave a bunch out. I remember the first time I ever heard him, "Cliffs of Dover." While I was trying to pick up my jaw off the floor, I said "Who the hell is this, he doesn't sound like anyone else!"gary sanders wrote:Anything Eric Johnson ever did....He could play a ruler off the edge of a desk and make it righteous....he he get it,righteous.....?
I also left Mark Knoffler out, Albert and BB. And probably a lot more.
So many inspiring players.

First time I heard Eric was when he did Cliffs Of Dover on the Tonight Show.Went and bought the album the next day and it totally changed the way I looked at playing.LeftyStrat wrote:Man o man, I knew I would leave a bunch out. Eric Johnson hasn't been heard until you hear him in your face live. He is too much for his own good with the OCD in a studio. The recordings sound tiny. His rig sounds like a 10,000lb violin in real life.
Love his transitional speed. Sweet.

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.
Re: Tones that rock your boat.
I can remember the tone that Hugh Burns got in the solo on "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty knocked me out in high school. Still knocks me out.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

I have to fight off the urge to surf YouTube.
I have never seen three hours go by so fast as when you are watching YouTube videos.

No access to YouTube from work but here are a few of my faves:
Jeff Beck - 'Cause We've Ended as Lovers
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Life Without You
Led Zeppelin - No Quarter (Live)
Tab Benoit - Nice and Warm (sweetest Fender sound ever)
Dire Straits - Once Upon a Time In The West
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush - Dragonfly
David Gilmore - On An Island (Live)
Ian Hunter - The Outsider (very haunting lead tone)
Trapeze - Black Cloud
Foghat - Driving Wheel (Can an electric guitar sound any better than this on a rock and roll track?)
Pat Travers - Stevie
The Allman Brothers - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
The Climax Blues Band - Long Distance Love
Ian Moore - How Does it Feel
Johnny Lang - The Darker Side
Robin Trower - The Fool and Me
The Beatles - She's So Heavy

I wasn't gonna say it because I'm not a rabid fan but yes- Johnny Lang now that you mention him
Darker side
Quitter never wins
He rips you a new one with a Telecaster!
