the word "Fuck" in music is not always the same word in social interaction. It's all in how it's used. in the case of Dave, it's the typical front man, get the crowd involved or at least perk up, lets do this. It's not like he knows everyone by name and how tame would it sound if he said ... OK... guys and girls, are you ready? He's pumped up...

Next.. education.. when did he last attend school? that is to some degree where your vocabulary stops. after that you are a product of your enviroment. How often do you think he hears.. "Dude.... your' fucking awesome!" etc. It's probably as constant as the word "and".

When at a concert or interacting with artist's you have to take "bad words" with a non offensive approach. It's just how they communicate.
If fact. It's also how most union labor I've interacted with speaks. which seems strange you would take offense. Had he singled you out by name and address and told you to "fuck yourself" I could see how it would offend you but in the context it was used I don't see the harm.

If you need proof as to why he said it.. listen to crowd response after he said it. it's called interacting.

As a long-time Zep fan I agree with you, Pagey & Jonesy are getting a little long in the tooth! The Foos on the other hand are pretty darn amazing live! You might not be a fan or like their music, but if you like rock music at all and see them live it's undeniable how badass Dave & co. are as a unit in person.
I don't need to suffer through a full live concert in order to determine that a particular singer can sing in tune or not. The singing was poorly pitched, out of the guys range and was not much better than karaoke, IMO.

The whole idea of trying to get a crowd "pumped" by shouting obscenities seems a little disrespectful to the audience, and I'm not a fuckin' prude or anything like that. If the music isn't good enough to get the crowd excited, well....

I'm certainly no saint, but I try to be judicious with the F bomb around ladies and groups of people. Its called tact. When I saw the video I lost a little respect for ol' Dave.

Yup. And ol' Dave sure as hell showed little respect for the people who (I presume) paid to hear his music. I haven't been to a big concert for years so I'm curious as to whether calling the audience MFs is a common thing. [/quote]

To me it is indicative of lack of vocabulary, confidence or both.
I have heard that "Profanity is the linguistic crutch of the inarticulate motherf**cker", but haven't totally formed my opinion...

Have to say that the F bomb is becoming acceptable language these days, sadly I suspect that societies morals are being stretched, lots of words are now common place which where totally unacceptable once, I swear like a sailor and am crass at times, but standing up on stage I would never talk like that.... what would happen if Mum caught me?

I don't care so much when somebody cusses at a show. I hate it when people think it's cool to spit on the audience (*looks at Zakk Wylde*).

I have given this some thought and I believe that curse words express ideas through their connotation that often cannot be expressed exactly the same way by using more sanitized language. Fuck is rarely used in it's literal sense in popular usage - more often I believe it is used as an exclamation ( either positive or negative ) or as a modifier of words and phrases to emphasize them both negatively and positively. I believe that ideas form in the brain before the brain puts them into words and that when choosing the words to best express the idea a curse word is thought of first in some cases because of its simplistic, base and extreme nature. The fact that even those who profess a disdain for "bad language" often use euphemisms for curse words and related expressions shows the natural desire that people have to talk this way, for example : go Fly Uh CKite, friggin, short end of the stick, darn, shoot, shucks, and the many permutations of J.C. sayings in lieu of actually saying Jesus Christ to name a few. It's people that don't curse at all that I don't trust as being somewhat fake and calculated in what they say.

Anyway, I just think Dave was genuinely excited that Jimmy Page was joining them onstage and was expressing it in an honest, albeit somewhat fucking crude, way.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes cursing is just the best way to express something, such as a fear of doctors or sickness : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHDdqubE7zQ

Although I will admit that after seeing Mike Judge's Idiocracy about the dumbing down of society I have taken to cursing less. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSROlfR7WTo

But still, sometimes you just have to kick out the jams motherfucker!

....
The wigglin guitars girl
The crash of the drums
Make you wanna keep-a-rockin'
Till the morning comes

Let me be who i am
And let me kick out the jam
Yes, kick out the jams
I done kicked em out !!!

I gotta say, I have never understood, or even worked out if it is meant to BE understood, exactly whose mother is getting fucked?

A) God forbid, my own.
B) My children's, AKA my wife, being the mother she is
C) anyone as long as they have children.

And assuming , in my case, Dave is implying option B, the question remains;
why would he feel that pointing this rather obvious fact out; that indeed I 'plough the ground' in my marital chambers with the spouse of my youth, would somehow enhance my experience of his colaboration with JPJ and JP?

All I can think of is, perhaps, he is trying to help me with my night time prowess, I mean, If ever there was a vision I could use to last longer, that would have to be it...
