I was thinking the same thing when I read the subject.rdjones wrote:"Can't You Hear Me Knocking" by The Stones.
Love that tone.

Favorite of the moment is Yo La Tengo "From a Motel 6" -- there's a certain out-ness to it without completely crossing the line that I find very appealing.

Dont have a name for it, but the tribute to SRV with Clapton, Holdsworth & Beck. Stunning. Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up ...

Re: Favorite guitar solo?
I know everybody got sick of it because it was over played and everybody and their brother played the beginning parts but I think the solo on Stairway to Heaven has to be one of the best as far as a classic lead guitar solo.
It fits perfectly and climaxes with Plant coming back in on the coda.

I love Page's solos. My problem is actually trying to choose one as a favorite. "I can't quit you babe" has a lot of great stuff in it though. You have to appreciate how big he sounds as essentially the noisemaker in the song.

How about Amos Garrett in "Midnight at the Oasis"? King of a silly song, but an unforgettable solo.

Yeah, Page solos are soooo great, SRV was mentioned, I personally love some Gallagher solos, He is so underrated guitarist, or rather forgotten nowdays.

Brad Paisley's "Cliffs of Rock City" is one of my current faves.
Pretty sure he's playing a 'Wreck on that one.

Re: Favorite guitar solo?
It's a really obvious choice but the final solo on Sweet Child o' Mine is pretty special too. The way it starts off slow and then builds up into the wah and double-stops part just fits the song so well. That's a Marshall tone to kill for there.
Matt Bellamy's homage to Brian May on Muse's Guiding Light is a great one as well for something really recent.

When Led Zep IV (ZOSO) came out in 1971, it totally blew everybody away with Stairway to Heaven.
I can't believe it was that long ago.
I was a sophomore in high school and ran out and bought the album.
What really ruined it was the non stop air play it got along with Black Dog.
But, I'll never forget listening to that new album on my headphones with it cranked up.
The emotion and feelings that song emoted were beyond compare at the time.
All IMHO of course.
VH1 only placed Stairway at #3 but most places rate it at #1.
