Today's gig involves a pile of kids on a stage rubbing their sticks with a hairy thing.
The act wants two mics and no monitors. I've got 6000 watts and have to run
FOH with two omni's. Thank god for the compressor. I'll sling a XY pair too.
Just in case they what some sort of board mix.
I get to run 'La Vent Du Nord' three nights at three different venues on three
different systems this week. Last week was BLOU, kids with screachy fiddles
isn't too bad, I was gonna be cocky and bring a Phillip Glass cd for the intermission,
see if any body cam tell the difference.

Depends on the Glass piece. You'd probably give 'em a harder time telling with Cage.Andy Le Blanc wrote:Today's gig involves a pile of kids on a stage rubbing their sticks with a hairy thing.

Re: fiddle army
The kids weren't too bad. There were a good thirty of them. So we set two
mics front, two mics rear, two for the accompaniment and one vox.
The presentation was good, no feed back issues through the performance.
The only trick was to build a natural sound stereo FOH with the two front and two rear
mics. There was one guy on guitar ( nice old Gibson) who's mic technique was so bad,
I had to punch everything else out on the console just to get
his speech up to be heard with no ring. I swear there's this anti-amplification hippy BS thing.
And the pecker nut is teaching all these kids such bad mic habits that it will repeat itself a decade later.
Better show than I imagined, stable gain structure, the mic application
seemed effective, still have yet to check out the board mix recording.
That will tell a different story, there were a lot of little kids running around
so the record is trash, but it'll demonstrate whether the mix that sounded
appropriate in the hall is at all usable for any thing.

So... I was having the worst day in ages... Woke up at 3 a.m. by the alarm company... My store was on fire... Fires out. Our store didn't burn. But...lots of water...TONS of water and... oh yeah...most of the roof caved in.
Came home, cracked a beer and read this...
If that don't make you laugh, nothing will. Thanks!

With hard times all around, if you can't laugh you might as well pack it in.
Your very welcome. Best wishes.
