And Life Goes On

Post by Blind Lemon »

I finally got the bad news I new was inevitable yesterday about 6:30. My good friend and amp building mentor Rick Potter of Tulsa died of complications of ALS. He was a 60's child and had been playing guitar all his life. He originally started working on amps just like so many other musicians........he couldn't afford to pay someone else to fix it for him. He started fixing amps in the 70's and had gained a reputation as THE Man to go to around these parts. Being a starving musician in the past, he new what the young kids were going through trying to scrape up enough money to pay for repairs and custom work...........he never charged enough and often nothing at all. I will miss him dearly as will all that new him.

Say a prayer for him and his family.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure he'll be missed by many.

ALS is nasty stuff. My cousin's husband died of it at 48 years old. Long tough battle.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We lost a friend to ALS as well.

I actually met him when my son was born, his son was born just about an hour before so we met in the hospital when our wives were in labor. Our son's are still good friends 23 years later.

Prayers

Thanks for posting this, Bob

Rick was an amazing guy. A Fender deluxe took on a whole new life after a visit to his shop...and his technical prowess was only matched by his incredible generosity and his patience. He never hesitated to put down his iron and answer all of my stupid questions..."Hey Rick, what's this orange thing...and what does it do?"

He will truly be missed.

Gents;

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. He was a super guy and I get to visit him every time one of his amps comes across my bench..................Of coarse they will never break, parts will just wear out. :lol:
