3x12 cabinets

Post by ER »

These look interesting. I knew Jamie in High School and he was always messing with Marshalls and cabinets.

Not sure what they go for or sound like but I would bet they sound pretty good. I always like the sound of the 3-10 bandmasters...

If you take a look at James Lugo's high gain amp shootout videos and the soundclips (see TGP or HRI) you'll see the prototype amp included in this, and the clips of it. Through one of Jim's 4x12 Scumback cabs though.

OK yeah I have seen that amp and speakers somewhere.

Kind of cool looking but not sure how practical or good a triangle speaker cab works.

For aesthetics my vote has been for Ark amps for quite some time, although some of those hardwood Express cabs come in at a close second. :D

Beautiful. A guy I work with actually owns S/N 1 of that amp.

Wow really? :)

How do they sound?

I would hate to think they look that good but don't sound good.

The clips I've heard sound pretty good.
Are they all 6V6 amps?

They are a very clever way of using exotic woods and I love the round shapes of the cabs. :D

Ben I have yet to get Jason to bring that in for me to look at. Didn't his Ark go to the amp show?

I have not heard anything about it going or not going to any amp show. No idea, sorry.

This one sounds pretty sweet!! I didn't play it myself or hear it for that long, but it seems fairly versatile. It actually get's pretty gainy if you want it to. Definitely a sweet amp, and at less than $2k it's amazing value considering the woodwork and the tone. I don't even know what tubes that particular one runs. I almost think el84s but I really don't know for sure.

Tom - Wow, you are right, fantastic look! That handle affair, what with the venting and the metal grill is a do-able idea on a Wreck cab, too. Clever man that Ark amp builder, not to mention his combining grains in the speaker cab and head cab. Very cool knobs, too. Very beautiful looking amps!!

Where does this guy live and how many amps does he make in a year? I mean, this is art, he can't be cranking stuff like this out in mass, can he?

I think I talked to the owner on another forum before (TGP?) and he said his cab guy is pretty good at cranking them out.
Something like two weeks lead time.

I suppose once he gets them dialed in and is making the same cab he can short cut some of the prototyping when in production but yeah, they are very cool looking cabs.

I wonder how he does the radiused pieces. Like if he uses steam or a hot bender like they do for acoustic guitar sides.

Regardless, they are a work of art to me. :D
