Big Numbers
Big numbers, like Million, Billion and Trillion just don't fit in the human mind
This little table may help. It looks at how long these numbers of seconds take.
One Thousand (1000) seconds is about 16:40 minutes:seconds
One Million (1,000,000) seconds is about 11 days, 13 hours
One Billion (1,000,000,000) seconds is more than 31.5 YEARS – Gerald Ford was President then (this is 2009)
One Trillion (1,000,000,000) seconds is more than 31,000 YEARS – that's twice as long as humans have been farming
- spreadsheet attached with the math
Puts a little perspective on the dollars the US government is spending, don't it?

Whoa!
Really puts it into perspective!
Yet, the politicals throw these numbers around like chump change.
I heard somewhere that Washington is spending a billion dollars an hour.

Re: Big Numbers
Want to REALLY put thing into perspective?
1 trillion = 1 x 10^12
1 million = 1 x 10^6
There are 8,766 hours in one year (24 x 365.25(accounting for leap year) = 8,766
If you spent 1 million dollers per HOUR, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. 365.25 day per year, in 1 year you would have spent 8.766 billion dollars
1 trillion / 8.766 billion(dollars per year) = 114.077 years
So, spending 1 million dollers per HOUR, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365.25 days per year, YOU WOULD NOT RUN OUT OF MONEY FOR OVER 114 YEARS!!!!
This administration needs to go...

At least Hillary has a task that takes her mind off guns.
I believe in this and it's tested by research...

Yeah she's going to rebuild the Gaza Strip, meanwhile I ain't got no job.....
I heard today that AIG was still handing out over $10 million in bonuses.
Of course they said those were earmarked before they got into trouble.
Well, un-earmark them, flipping losers.

Mutate and survive! That's evolution. The critter best able to cope wif adversity lives to breed another day.
Whose fault is it that we've created an environment where the critters that survive wear expensive suits? And live in soft downy nests lined wif money?!Structo wrote:I heard today that AIG was still handing out over $10 million in bonuses.

Re: Big Numbers
Sorry if I offended Tom. That was not my intent.
My point was merely that most people "hear" lot's of "facts" everyday. Then they get repeated over and over and before you know it..."it MUST be true 'cause I heard it on talk radio".
I think it's irresponsible. That's all.
By the way, I don't consider this to be a conservative vs. liberal issue. They ALL do it. And the more they do it - the less likely we will ever solve anything.

Re: Big Numbers
No offense taken Deric.
I just wanted to clarify that when I say I heard something, that it isn't a rumor and has been backed up by facts.
I agree, this whole mess is everybody's fault.
But when I see wasteful spending and greed it really gets my goat.
This morning the news said that AIG just finished passing out over $167 million in bonuses.
Why would a company that is in default pay bonuses?
You don't get a bonus for failure......
Anybody else see something wrong with that picture?

My problem: I can't figure out which half
