Help with my Strat Elite Radio Tuner.....

Post by Blindog »

I've got a '83 Strat Elite that's picking up 3 local radio staions (depending how I hold it). This only happens when I'm at home 'cause I live very close to the towers. The Elite had the the active electronics (see schematic below)

Is there anything I can do to block these? It doesn't matter what amp you plug it into either, so it has to be the preamp in the guitar right? The frequencies I'm picking up are 99.9, 104.7, and 107.7, with the last one loud and strong over the others.

I'd like to be able play this damn thing at home!

Thanks

Mark

Is it well shielded ? a complete shield inside the control cavity under the pickgaurd, even the back cavity.

The pickguard has foil tape and the entire control cavity has conductive paint with a ground attached. Looks like I'm out of luck :(

Does it vary with different settings of the volume or the mid boost knobs?

Maybe try putting a cap from the wiper of the volume to ground. Experiment with the value. Those are 50k pots so you should be able to get away with something in the range of 50 to 250pf without affecting the tone.

Also, just because it has foil and conductive paint does not mean it is functioning. Measure it to be sure it is all connected.

Yes it does somewhat. I'll try some caps and see what that does.

I checked all the grounds and continuity to the shielding. Seems to be all Ok there.

Thanks for the input guys.

Jana, your cap idea really helped. I had to go to a 270pf to get the most suppression. I can't really notice any ill effects on tone. Thanks!
