The Constellation

Post by Stephen1966 »

Hi,

I've been in and out of this forum for months planning a new ODS https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=33582 but I took a time out recently to finish my new guitar. Here are a couple of pics. Here's basically what you can see...

Mahogany, maple, ebony and carbon fibre construction. Carbon reinforced neck with an asymmetric profile (SRVish) - 25" scale length.

Seymour Duncan P-Rails (the bridge PU is the hotter version) with parallel/series/coil split switching Triple-shots, single tone and volume pots with phase switch

Ghost Acoustiphonic with a seperate volume pot including a mid and dark switch running through a Schaller Hannes Piezo bridge

Twin jacks: mag and mag+piezo

M6 locking tuners

8.3 lbs

I'd love to get your feedback...

My feedback, it looks horrible, just send it to me so I can properly "Destroy" it.

:D

Just kidding, that looks absolutely outstanding! Well done.

Cheers guys. The face was intense, I had my plan of course but then the wood said: 'Hang on, let's go this way instead'. It was all done with gouges and scrapers, blood and blisters. The most fun a middle-aged guy in his basement can have - legally. The finish is nitro and you don't see it here but the neck was masked off for the later sanding and polishing. Leaving it a slick satin finish for playability.

I get a lot of great tones out of this (still discovering them, in fact), I just don't have any recording equipment here. When the lockdown eases I'll take it into my mates recording studio and lay down some tracks.

I found myself dumbfounded for a bit. You really outdid yourself. It's quite the package and stunning to look at. Is this your first guitar build?

Thanks Phil, yeah! The first. It was almost three years in the planning though. Not for the faint of heart. I really didn't want to emulate anything before but there are mechanical considerations which mean it starts to look like most of the others in some respects. The one deliberate reference I included though was the neck and faux heel - those are a hint at my classical guitar playing past. I took a lot of advice from the classical and flamenco instrument luthiers. I'm really pleased with it but of course, there are things I will do better next time.
