NGD circa ‘52

Post by MeanMrMustard »

Got my very first vintage Gibson about a month ago and I don’t think we’ll be separated now. It’s a 1952 ES-150. All original except for tuners. Great shape, great deal. I’d been looking for a jazzbox and this one was perfect for me, relative to other quality 17” offerings. Neck feels just like my R8 LP. The customer that had me restore the Deluxe pictured has been providing jazz lessons. I had to give a run through that amp when I got the guitar. I believe it’s also from ‘52. Much tone. That amp just about got the works, speaker too.

I use it mostly acoustically but plugging in is fun too. The 150s are still reasonably affordable and I don’t mean $3k or $4k like some ridiculous listings. Not the worst investment around $2k and cheaper than the LP.

Very nice -- enjoy.

Was similarly fortunate recently acquiring a '53 ES125. As you say, remarkably affordable. Plays regularly. Likes GHS flat-wound Brite. Sounds cool unplugged, and even cooler plugged into GA50-inspired amp.

Best .. Ian

Nice!

I must admit I did put it into a Wreck inspired amp with 4x12 the other day. Wild stuff. Kind thought it was going to explode. I love P90s. :)

For a 17” vintage jazzbox I think prices like this are unbeatable for what you’re getting.

Nice score! I like playing guitars like this plugged in, but at a low volume (clean, obviously) so that I get a mix of acoustic and amplified sound.

Thanks!

I do as well.

These old pots always have interesting personalities. :)
