Psuedo Christmas!!!

Post by dartanion »

Hey Folks,

I spent the day emptying our storage unit of our crap. We've had our whole house packed away for the last 1.5 years, and moved it all back today. I am very tired and sore; however still have many, many grueling hours of work ahead, but it feels like Christmas came early.....Why may you ask?

Here's why!

Gear retrieved from storage:

69 SFTR
76 Vibro Champ
88 JCM 800
210 Mahogany cabbed 5E3
Bastard EL34 Champ
65 Epiphone Frontier FT110N (acoustic)
62 ES 330 TDC Bigsby

I also get to dedicate one bedroom as my office!!! Yeah!

Here in CA, we don't have basements, but I have a 6' tall large crawlspace with a new concrete floor where I am going to build a studio. Got to finish the house first though.

Just thought I'd share
:D

Let's see now, Dart. You get a bedroom and the crawlspace :? Out of a whole house :? Where's the fairness in that  I'm the same way. We remodeled our house, and I have a large closet which holds amps and guitars, half of a small office, half a bathroom, and part of the garage  That leaves three bedrooms, a partial basement, family room, TV room, kitchen, utility room– I guess we can delete the last two, I didn't want them anyway–dining/Living room, and 2 1/2 bathrooms. And I bring home the bacon :!:

Hey Tim,

Well, here in the SF Bay Area, your money doesn't go too far in the way of housing. You can't even get a condo for $500K today much less a house. So, we bought a fixer upper with the intent on expanding and remodeling. Reality hit us hard on the expansion plan with cost being $250 - $350 / sq. ft. for expansion. YIKES  So, there went my in house studio! Now I get an under house studio

It's funny how we're just delighted with whatever little space our spouses give us :!: Remember, the Beatles didn't start out at Abbey Road. They began in little underground places like the Cavern Club 8) I'm sure you'll enjoy it as if it were a castle

My heart Bleeds

Where's my violin?

All that being said, I just rented an 8 X 36 ocean cargo container for a storage shop studio. Pictures to come in the shop organization thread. If it wasn't for generator power only it wouldn't be a bad cave. Maybe kerosene heat this winter. I dunno. Last year I was building an amp in the engine room, sitting on a stool 6.5" high, knees up under my ears and my head hitting the overhead. No fun.

That's a NICE boat Dan!

I almost lived in a boat when I first came out here on a consulting gig. The no heat prospect of SSF in the winter was a deterrent.

Just spent another night of moving stuff into the house. Oh my aching back!!

Yes, and this winter when it's 35 degrees in my garage, or next summer when it's 100, and you're cruising the Bay in the cool breezes, I'll be feeling sorry for who :?:

Hey Tim,

I grew up in Minnesota and left there in 2000. I'll take a Minnesota winter over a SF Bay Area winter any day. My wife calls winter here "Suicide Season." It pretty much rains all the time for the whole winter. It's cold and gloomy. I'll take cold, snow, and sunshine over that!

I have this sort of sick twisted relationship with minnesota where no matter how ungodly cold it got the winter before I still miss the snow/cold and am always excited to see the first flakes dropping. Which happened to be yesterday. *sigh* Here we go again

What cracks me up about Bay area folks is that when it dips below 60 F, people start wearing sweaters and coats

When it hit 40 F in MN, we broke out the shorts and T-shirts :D

I really liked having 4 seasons back in MN. Here we have 2 season: Dry and Wet. Although Minnesotans joke about our 2 season: winter and road construction.

Now that I have these amps and guitar back, I think I'll have to spend some quality time with them!!! Create some clips and such. I've been jonesin' to play my Bastard Champ. It's a naughty little thing

I've spent a good deal of time in Guatemala, in the mountains. It's never hot in the highlands. Early in the morning when it's about 48-55 (depending on your elevation), the Guatemalans would have on their P coats, toboggans, and gloves :!: I'm in a T shirt and lovin' it, because back home in Kentucky it was 95 degrees and 95% humidity :D
I guess everything is relative 8)
