It's always best to have a cat around to help when you change strings. Does it ever make their day.

I'm hanging out in a shop once shooting the shit, friend at bench doing a set up he cuts a sting still under some tension it springs right into the outlet box on his bench and goes sparky-flash-zzzzaaaappp.

Knew a chick that used guitar strings cut a few inches from the ball for acupuncture - supposedly it's standard practice.

As for your eyes, I wear glasses, saved me more than once in all sorts of ways - though I'd rather take my chances and have 20/20.

I would ever cut the strings off under tension, the jolt can't be best for the neck.

I've heard from one tech who has found cutoff bits of wire in the cat box, after having passed thru the cat. Bad enough that, if the wire didn't pass through, even worse. Some cats like to chew on brushes & things like that, I guess some are attracted to wire & guitar string offcuts.

One day setting up a show in Las Vegas, I met a female local stage hand with earrings & necklace made of brass string ends (balls!?!) including many colored ones from D'addario including big bass ones. Another home craft source. Now I have a mason jar full, one of these days some lucky craftsperson will benefit.

Haven't got any strings in the eye yet but I've gotten plenty of unintended acupuncture. Seema almost every day on the road I'd get a freshly cut string end stuck in a finger or thumb. OW! IMHO they're all too thick for proper acupuncture except maybe 8 or 7 gauge, besides the ends are randomly cut. You want a nice sharp pencil point for acupuncture. Moxibustion, anybody? With the ball on, a snippet of string would be good for that, still it's sharp in the wrong sort of way.

Before really tighting the string I give is a good stretch by pulling on them.Seems to help,The real shocker is when they break while playing.
I wear glasses full time now,I spent 30 years cutting wood with no eye or ear protection.Nobody did back in the seventies,I dont think Bob Villa had arived yet.Mikey

Pretty sure my cat was able to count to six!

I never left any little metal string ends around for my own sake as much as theirs, but if they ever ate any zip tie ends that's their tough luck.

Let's not get into angel hair Christmas tinsel... used to have to yank that stuff out of their butts. Luckily I still like them even when they're dumb, unlike people pets tend to be more entertaining when they're being stupid.

Back in the day, (30 years ago!) I have seen more than one amateur tattoo artist using guitar strings for tattooing needles and modified electric shavers for the tattoo machine. After seeing the results, I still have no tattoos. I know what they look like when things go horribly wrong.
