Iconic NY instrument dealer dies

Post by martin manning »

Funny, but I was just now listening to Joni Mitchel's Song for Sharon, and wondered how things were going at Mandolin Brothers...

I am going to miss Stan. He was a nice man. I am wondering as well if MB is going to carry on. His son and daughter are still there I believe. I will keep you posted as to any developments

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

So effing weird I can't even explain it. We were just talking about Stan yesterday. Guitars remind me of people at a glance. Guy opened a fat assed 40's case and out comes a Stromberg Master. I said "Wow! Stan!"..

Stan was a super nice guy. I saw him do some amazingly funny things that were always unexpected. He really was the king of the archtops. We lost the finest touch.

Only went out to see the shop once, back in the late 70s when I was living in NYC. It was like seeing the collection at the Met, with all those amazing instruments I had only heard about. Walls covered with them.
