After almost a year of the education that i have gleaned from this site, reading many posts on other "tech" oriented music sites can be downright painful. I read one post on the boogie forum about the earlier dual rectifier amps that had the cord built in instead of the IEC. They actually claimed it made the amp quieter and less hiss. Someone even chimed in about cord length and tone
Thank you

Thank you
For not being all douchey like TGP, or HC, or apparently parts of the Boogie forum.

Also another post where someone was asking about mods to their boogie, a bunch of people chimed in and said swapping out all the orange drops made a drastic difference in tone. Why? Why would you even suggest this? have these people been inside one of these things!? That would be like having a 5 year build a ship in a bottle. talk about finding a way for a newbie to destroy a $1000 dollar amp. Ugh. So yeah. love you guys. no homo.

I doubt we care who you love. I'm sure we like whatever love we can get here.beasleybodyshop wrote:... a bunch of people chimed in and said swapping out all the orange drops made a drastic difference in tone. Why? On the Boogie, I guess people who can drop a grand on an amp aren't aware enough to know they can build one for that amount of money (including real nice tubes) and put whatever damn caps they want in it. It amazes me, too, that people are willing to pick up the iron to ruin a perfectly decent amp just to see if they can make it better -- things most people can't hear after about age 25, when your hearing acuity (upper end range) begins to evaporate. Besides that, I'm pretty sure the acoustics in the room and the position of the speaker have more affect on tone than the caps inside. You've gotta just <shrug>.
Re: Thank you
But, on the Boogie forum I heard that if you use orange drops you can sound just like John Petrucci. Are you saying that swapping speakers might be a better suggestion, because, on the Boogie forum they said...
TAG is a great place and I've learned a lot. I appreciate the insight and experience you guys offer up for free. Seriously, it should cost something to hear what many of you have to say. Many thanks.

Yep, this is a great place to hang.
I could have never built my favorite amp without this place and the people here.

Re: Thank you
Quick, somebody patent an amp that uses both a hardwired cord and an IEC socket before whatshisface at Boogie does . . .beasleybodyshop wrote:I read one post on the boogie forum about the earlier dual rectifier amps that had the cord built in instead of the IEC.
