They just screwed up mains power in my lab.

Post by VacuumVoodoo »

Power distribution company just replaced the 60 years old distribution transformer across the street with a new one. They never run any aging treatment on it except a 24 hrs burn-in and overload test. It still smells of fresh impregnation varnish.
Everything sounds raspy now. Even the digital TV looks like it was randomly missing every 17th bit in a pixel.
I want that good old trusty vintage power transformer back!!!

Maybe we'd all be better off with Tesla's wireless power grid?

Find a nice big OLD 1:1 isolation xfmr & put it between that new one and your lab.

Well they most likely did not use seasoned iron. :D

Make sure you use a $350 power cord on your amps.

Oh noes, that's the cheap stuff! $2500 and up, that's where the quality starts. Oops, I mean kwality. We put the "K" in kwality.

Seasoned, doesn't that mean rusty? You can fake it by dusting the laminations with paprika. Now doesn't that taste better -

It's the lack of PCB's in the new transfomer as the reason why your tone is now raspy. After a few surges and maybe a lightning strike or two, the iron will be properly seasoned and stress relieved.

The paprika will make the tone savory ..... but to add a hint of sweetness you need to mix 50/50 with cinnamon.

You can either have tone and cancer, or no tone.
