Can you say "ambulance chaser?" There, I knew you could...
I wouldn't trust this guy as far as I could throw a locomotive. A real one, not an HO gauge one.
Of course I'm always open to hearing any success stories with a "public adjuster."
I got a lot to do in making lists of my losses,Im going to be pretty busy the next few weeks,
Exactly. Bad enough it got the shop. Hope the rest of the place is OK.

I'd be inclined to treat a guy who shows up unannounced like that as little better than the con artists that come around trying to sell you "driveway sealers" and similar home improvement scams.
But it sounds like you've suffered a substantial enough loss that you should at least consider getting some help, whether with an attorney or an independent adjustor. I don't know what's common in your state. Ask around.
Well this Guy read about the fire in the newspaper,He says they get 10 percent but they get you more like 50 percent more. They kinda fight for you to get everything covered.I had so much stuff out there.I had not slept for two days and now I have met with the State Police to try to determine the cause of the fire.Im going to take it slow one day at a time.Im very thankful it happened at 9 at night and not 3:00 am.Its a scary thing seeing flames pour out the windows and hearing the fire trucks in the distance. We got everybody and three dogs into the car and waited. The whole house smells real bad. Thanks again fellas for all your concern.I really appreciate it,Mikey
An independent adjustor can be a positive for you.
That being said, don't necessarily take the first one who shows up, or the guy who calls you. There are plenty of them out there, google or phone book.
Talk to a couple or a few, get a sense.
Remember always, insurance companies make money by NOT paying claims, so someone who works for you and is motivated by a percentage interest can be a good thing.
Good luck with this terrible and traumatic life event.
Unless you specified replacement cost in your home owner policy the Insurance company will be very low on coverage.
Not sure how the 3rd party adjuster can get more but might be worth it hard to tell. You could first discuss terms with your Insurance company alone but not agree to anything and then later bring in a 3rd party if needed.
Mike, thank God you are all safe, and here's my experience with Insurance. 1 Never trust them.
2. At least in my State (Oregon) if you cannot come to an agreement on the replacement value of the items the Ins. is REQUIRED by law to hire (and pay for out of their pockets) an independent 3rd party assessor. In my case that worked out well, as my stated value was extremely close to the 3rd party guy and they were then bound by it.
3. Never take their first offer.
4. At a 10% rate those guys might be a help, but I would not trust their word either, as they are probably former Ins. Co. adjusters.
Oh did I mention never, ever trust them. Again, really glad everyone is safe.
