$400 cash for both. Amp needs recapped. The transformers may be blown from folks turning it on to "test" that it works. Could be expensive to restore.

The V4 cab is cool, if the speakers work. Some of those cabs came with a full compliment of Altec 417s. That would be a great score.

Yes it would suck if it it needed new tubes and transformers but i think I could get 3 or 400
Out of the head if I could get it working.

I noticed it had flyback diodes ounthe outputs could just be those blown from being turned on without a load who knows though without digging into it.

As NickC said (hey we're agreeing a lot!) scan that cab for Altec 417's. If you get a working set, that's worth more than the price of admission right there. I've been using a V4 Altec cab - recovered with grey Ozite carpet by a previous owner - as my "house" test cab for over 20 years now. Excellent speakers and if you don't like 'em, you can sell 'em and wind up on the + side of the ledger, no question. A favorite of Carlos Santana for over 30 years. Chris Squire of Yes used 'em for bass, got that signature "klank" tone. Can't say enough good about Altec 417's. Pop that grill, and if you see white frames then "the fix is in" - Altecs.

If they are factory speakers - late CTS or early Eminence - OK but a big wet blanket on my enthusiasm compared to Altecs.

Flybacks seldom fail - but your meter can tell you fast without even having to open the cab. Poppin' fuse could also have to do with failed filter caps or bad output tube, even the 0.33uF caps that deliver signal to the output grids all too often get leaky, and that's too large a value anyway. I typically replace them with 0.1/630V and that's plenty 'nuff, maybe still too big. V2 and V4 amps are "sleepers", built tough like a brick outhouse, very modifiable. Finding proper 7027A output tubes can be problematic. JJ offers them but some claim they're just relabeled 6L6. I've used 'em and no problems. 6550/KT88 would be good but the glass envelope is so fat they rattle against the power transformer and can break too easily because of that. Some people have altered the output tube socket wiring and installed EL34 or 6CA7 and claim success.

V2 - sound of the Stones in the 70's right there. You'll be playing licks from Exile to Some Girls, they seem to flow right out of those amps.

If so I'd go for it. If it's all good you'll be thrilled, if it's got 4 Altecs you can taunt us with your luck and sell them for $100@. If it's all blown and there are '70s Radio Shack speakers inside you'll have plenty of amp shit to mess with - and ain't that what you really want!
