Have you read the story pf the pitch drop experiment? BRUTAL

Waiting 10-12 years to see something that happens in the blink of an eye. It took decades of patience and quite a string of heartache.

I can imagine some ol' professor telling his grad student that they only need to acquire three data points to publish a thesis. Oldest, most bitter grad student in history!

And then the next student gets to study the influence of temperature. Not!

My graduate advisor was big in creep, fracture, and fatigue. I'm SO glad that I avoided studying creep, the science of boring.

I study creep! I have a mirror.

People are disgusting.

Radiolab NY podcast Feb 5th 2013 has the story of pitch drop and the story about stopping light. Speed. Great show.

It would be interesting to see a graph of strange attractors develop from this study........
