If someone living on welfare is doing better than you your job probably sucks, or at least the pay does. Nobody wants to be on welfare. But if it pays better you take it. Play the hand you are dealt. If you abolish welfare in this despotic climate there would be anarchy. Bank on it.Leo_Gnardo wrote:Those (working) who point out others - goldbrick malingerers - get smeared as "racist" and other epithets. Late 60's USA agriculture program started to pay farmers to NOT grow certain crops. Keep the prices up, supply & demand, was the idea. Those outside the ag biz left scratching their heads, how do that make sense? I heard some report that this program has been scuttled but don't really know.why work if the gov will pay me more not too? Am I the last american with any ethiics or morality? apparently so - I need to fix that.
Don't worry you're not the last. Plenty of good folks. Only problem, we're not in charge.
CORPORATE welfare, that's where the big money's going. To quote some pol "You gotta pay these guys tens, hundreds of millions of dollars a year. How else are you going to get that kind of talent." Talent indeed. Run your biz into the ground and get handouts from Congress. That's the "new paradigm." Enough, I'm gettin depressed. Hey buddy can you spare a . . . $10,000,000 dime?

WRITTEN BY A 21 YEAR OLD FEMALE - Wow, this girl has a great plan!
Love the last thing she would do the best.
This was written by a 21 yr old female who gets it. It's her future she's worried
about and this is how she feels about the social welfare big government state
that she's being forced to live in! These solutions are just common sense in
her opinion.
This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX
PUT ME IN CHARGE . . .
Put me in charge
of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star
cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for
50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and
all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want
steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge
of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get
women Norplant birth control implants or tubal
legations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs,
alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use
drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.
Put me in charge
of government housing. Ever live in a military
barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and
good state of repair. Your home" will be subject to
inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried.
If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and
your own place.
In addition, you will either
present a check stub from a job each week or you will
report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the
roadways of trash, painting and repairing public
housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22
inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo
and speakers and put that money toward the "common
good.."
Before you write that I've violated
someone's rights, realize that all of the above is
voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.
Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin
their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long
ago that taking someone else's money for doing
absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self
esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other
people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make
them learn from their bad choices. The current system
rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.
AND
While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can
VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a
conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove
yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't
welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.
..........
I hope that I haven't offended anyone.

People don't choose to be poor, it happens.
Being poor sucks-anyone who thinks it doesn't has never been poor.

Welfare for the poor - or the rich?mac0611 wrote:If you abolish welfare in this despotic climate there would be anarchy. Bank on it.
My answer - either. Or both.

BTW I'm doing the only job I got, wrenching amps & sometimes guitars & other kwipment. Funny t'ing, I have to pay unemployment insurance. Yet as a self-employed person, can never collect.
Unemployment office drone: "I see you have a history of being self-employed. How do we know you're not working, Mister Gnardo, the second we turn our back on you." When I did apply after being fired from an 8-year road gig, that's what I got. (Not that unemployment is exactly welfare, but you must understand it's pretty close AND there are plenty of folks who game that system too.) And with that I missed out on 99 weeks of $400 a week while pretending to search for work. Weekly interviews are carried out "online", and it's just amazing to see how many find a job right exackly-tackly when the unemployment check clock grinds to a halt. What a coincidence...
Others, techs & musicians that I know, apply regularly and GET unemployment checks even for 1 week breaks in tour schedules. So the lesson is, never file any paperwork, tax returns etc. that indicate self-employment. The only way to win is to cheat. Terrific. Hand me the dunce cap. The one with my name on it, I get to wear it so much. Feels good to be honest. That breeze wafting thru the barrel I'm wearing is exhilirating. Whoooo........eeee.

Re: Minimum wage
I used to work with a lady in an office. She had previously been on welfare, but wanted to take the job offer. Problem was, if she took the job she'd earn less than what she received from welfare. However, if she worked hard she could increase her earnings over time and end up better off in the long run. She took the job. I didn't know about any of that until after I'd worked with her for several years. She was one of the most dedicated, honest, and decent people I have ever had the privilege to know. She was one of the reasons the company was successful, and the owners knew it and compensated her so she stayed with the firm. Good people are hard to find. She was the ONLY reason that she was successful. She'd have improved any firm lucky enough, and willing to pay enough, to have her. Respect!

re: put me in charge
For a bit of much needed levity, the "put me in charge" essay showed up in the local Craigs list "rants & raves", a piece at a time, about 3 years ago. With the following picture under it. Is she the author, repeat poster, or receiver of welfare. Making a silly face but guys you'll forget about EVERYTHING when you see:
Maybe I'm as smart as a short plank but I don't see what's racist. Unless you perhaps equate "poor" or "welfare receiver" with some particular ethnic group. Don't see that in the pmic screed. Again, around here they come in every color and stripe including Frigidaire-white.mac0611 wrote:that's about as racist as a rant can get. Just shows how we got in this mess to begin with. you can't see whats racist because you've never experienced it. That's the root of the problem. No one understands the reality unless they make it up for there own rationalizations in life.

Don't think I haven't experienced it. Discrimination because of color, (assumed) religious affiliation, age, mode of dress, wearing eyeglassesmac0611 wrote:you can't see whats racist because you've never experienced it. Two things real quick. Around these parts, who I DON'T see using EBT or SNAP: Asians. From Kamchatka all the way round to Pakistan. Rationalize that. Maybe in other parts of the country it's different. In fact I'm sure it is. There are plenty of Asian folks around here because IBM hires 'em by the boat load. I'm not complaining, hardly. Because they're hardly ever troublesome. Remember I'm observing the Hudson Valley not everywhere. YMMV. Umbrella up, expecting mud pies to fly this way. and...
Corporate welfare. Nobody sees it because it's not "obvious", not seen by us "ordinary" folks. Now if you want to cry "racist" guess what ethnic group benefits the most. Gets the cake while we fight over crumbs. Just the way it's supposed to be. And don't say "rich", wise guys.
Maybe I'm just lucky I've never been so rich and smart and influential and well connected that I could benefit from the corporate welfare. Nor so poor and down-at-the-heels that I could get the other kind. I'll persevere to try and continue my "lucky streak." Shouldn't we all?
Now have another look at the hag from Poughquag. And don't let l'il ol' me wreck your Sunday. You know I'm thick as a brick and I know that too.

describes my last 3 bosses to a T....Having hob knobbed with a lot of successful CEO's, I can assure you that all of the successful ones are not that different than a psychopath. The only difference is the degree of illegal in which they operate. Their egotism is off the charts, they truly believe they are somehow saviors of mankind. But their only talent is to convince really talented people that somehow subjecting themselves to this egomaniac will somehow result in riches, without having to deal with marketing types.

Re: Minimum wage
Trying hard to ignore this thread.
I own a small to medium sized music store in West Mi and can't afford to hire part time help at the new min wage. Overhead keeps going up and margins keep gettin' smaller. Six or seven years ago I was wiping my ass with $100 bills. Now the bank account barely stays the same every month even after putting my competition out of business.
And now they want to raise our sales tax???????
Beats diggin ditches or flippin burgers. Just feel like I'm working harder and getting nowhere.

Excellent. I am rather experienced. I agree with you on one thing, people being out of control.

I hate racism of every stripe. Not especially fond of folks who infer racism everywhere they look, either.
