Saw this band last night
I heard this band on the CBC friday morning, never heard of them before, and turned out they were playing Toronto NXNE last night. So last minute I thought what hell and drove down. Well my ears are still ringing, they destroyed the place. Check out the links.

Glad to see Jordon getting around a bit and getting some exposure. They do kill live. He's been living in Seattle and doing shows the last three years or so, first time I saw him I knew he was destined for national exposure.
Looks like they are doing Austin City Limits in October. That should be awesome.

In the interview he talked about Seattle and the Sound Garden connection. I can't believe I never heard of him before as he is Canadian. Sometimes you have to leave to make it, Canada is a tough slog. His sound is insane, I thought my head was going to explode.

He asked me about building him a Dumble-style amp, but it didn't go too far. I'm not sure an ODS would suit him. Seems like an SSS might be more suited to his playing. That or a plexi.tele caster wrote:In the interview he talked about Seattle and the Sound Garden connection. I can't believe I never heard of him before as he is Canadian. Is he still using the Sovtek Mig?

Re: Saw this band last night
He had a plexi and a twin reverb on stage set up about ten feet apart. Newer gear, probably reissue. Not sure how he was using them. I was close enough to feel the air off of it. Do you know what fuss he's using? Sounds fuzz face like, maybe octave. He had a phase90 on board. Couldn't recognize what else. Phase 90 sounds good with fuzz, even big muff, but it wasn't that sound if you know what I mean.

The octave fuzz was special made for him. I tried to get more information, because it really cleans up on softer playing. If you watch his KEXP performance on youtube, he uses it with the electric mandolin and goes from clean to octave just with pick attack.
He's apparently under sworn secrecy to the builder not to give out details. My guess is it is a tycobrahe octavia clone with the transformer, perhaps with two batteries or a charge pump to give it more headroom.
I've owned a Roger Mayer Octavia and it won't do that. The recent Dunlop Octavio is similar to the Tychobrahe, so that might get you close. I haven't had a chance to play one.

I have a tycobrahe octavia clone I built from a ggg pcb and it never sounded like what he had going on. I pulled it out of the box as I couldn't find a use for it, too much gain. You may be on to something though, he easily played with one hand without plucking the strings, he had that much gain. I did see a black box with two knobs on it on his board.

Robert Johnson meets Jack White meets Jim Marshall.

I always thought he was more reminiscent of Rory Gallagher.
Jack White wishes he could play like that.
