Brent Amaker and the Rodeo
I've posted about these guys before. Tomorrow night my wife and I are going to their show at Neumo's:

Yeah, I think it's your fault I have a couple albums from them now.

Re: Brent Amaker and the Rodeo
Funny part is Brent is very down home. My wife is friends with him on Facebook and all he posts is recipes. They are better live than their studio albums, but I know you know quite a few of those band types. I've never seen Drive-By Truckers live, but I imagine they'd be better live.echuta13 wrote:Yeah, I think it's your fault I have a couple albums from them now.

I've seen the truckers but it was in terrible sounding building a real crapholeThe crowd sucked. I only made a few songs before I got in a fight with security.
Police and stuff ,jail blah blah.
I probably won't see anymore shows by anyone unless they come to the country cause I ain't goin to the city.

Just got back from the show. I didn't realize it was an album release party. They kicked ass, really great show. Surrealistic at times.

Re: Brent Amaker and the Rodeo
The only thing about the show that sucked was the PA sound. The Rodeo sounded pretty good, but the first two bands (can't remember the name of the first, the second was 'The Young Evils') just sounded horrible, even though their playing was good.
It sounded like the sound man had been raised in the trunk of a lowered Honda Accord. Way too bass heavy and with a weird resonance.
It's like he was more interested in people feeling the bass drum than actually hearing the guitars or vocals.
In addition, the room had little in the way of acoustic treatment.

Re: Brent Amaker and the Rodeo
I get so irritated when I go to a show and the foh engineer (using the term losely here) insists on using an inappropriate eq curve for the genre!

Re: Brent Amaker and the Rodeo
It seems to be an epidemic in the NW. The only venue that has amazing sound is The Triple Door.
The foh 'engineer' last night pushed the very frequencies as the room resonant frequency, so the bass had a horrible honk on it for a certain note. Which happened to be the key the band played in for most their set.
I looked over and he was wearing headphones. WTF?
