Dream amp?

Post by EtherealWidow »

Alright. Didn't find another thread like this, but it's pretty self-explanatory. Post your dream amp topology no matter how expensive, complicated, or inefficient they may be. Reeltarded, feel free to get... retarded.

Here it goes: V1 & V2 6SL7 cascode. V3 12AX7 gain stage with a big Ra for more voltage swing into V4, a DC cathode follower. I don't even know what kind of tonestack. Plexi, AC30, 5F6A, whatever... then parallel SE EL34 and 6L6. Tube or SS rectified. Doesn't matter.

Multiple voicing on input (resistive load) for active electronics. 3 selectable gain stages that can be inserted as desired or fully true bypassed. Off two 6k11 tubes (Ampeg reverb tube). It's three 1/2 sections of a 12ax7. Same tubs again for the EQ. A gain bypassable. Passive active buffered fx loop transformer isolated from input DI with independent tube driver. Octal tube phase inverter. Master and presence controls. 150 watts output with 2,4,8,16 taps 5k impedance. 4 el84 with selectable snubbers, 4 el34. Outputs tubes selectable between pairs quads and blending. Two tube rectifiers selectable to solid state. Optional insert bus for external add on tube driven reverb and a foot switch that selects input gain stages and a resistive boost for stepping out for solos, fx loop in/out. With add on port for reverb control.

I want 700v from the PT and a roadie to move it.

Oh wow. I'm glad I don't know more about amps, otherwise I might be inclined to dream up something that ridiculous.

Quite some years ago, I was on a fairly large science prosject.
The main control console, operated by two visiting engineers, had this funny looking handle and a huge switch in the top section, - labeled Pre and Post Op's.....
After the main operation was done, the switch was turned to 'Post Op', and the handle, which proved to be a spout, poured a well known dring in these areas, known as 'Mountain Brook' - contains a fair amount of aquavite..... :-)

How about that for an extra function? Scotch - anyone ? 8)

1000W SE using one big ass water cooled triode and 100W HiWatt with a Supafuzz in front to drive the whole thing + 4x4x12 quad stack.
And Adrian Gurvitz plugged into it playing Race with the Devil 24/7......

My dream amp is one, where there is an infinite volume and infinite gain knob... and a selector for any Fender amp ever made, till present time, with an "era-blender" switch. I mean all you would need - thousands of tone stacks, about a dozen glass bottles, various speaker configurations, a variac, and some tweed!

You need to do a version of this to "no money down";

Man, I haven't listened to that tune in a while! I think I'll give the album a listen today. Can't even remember any of their other songs. :?

2 channels,
EF86 brilliant and
12AX7 parallel, no tone stacks, 12AX7 PI to El84's cathode bias no NFB

But I want 100 clean watts and weighs 20 lbs :D

No hum and it needs to sound good with any type of pickups or cab combination and at any volume.
