Brownsurger amp
Hey Guys,My daughters boyfriend wants to buy a brownsurger amp kit and put it together with him.Anybody have any experience with these. The clips sound great.I have not seen any layout or info.Is it close to a fender with marshall power.Everthing seems quality with allen amps. They are not cheap but Im trying to steer him to buy American!!!He was looking at some stuff fro malaysia. We would just get the chassis kit and build a nice headcab and a 2x12 mixed speaker cab. Thanks for any feedback,Mikey

From Allen Amps website:
A unique blend of a brown-era preamp (tone controls, phase inverter and presence control) with a tweed-era cathode-biased output section and wonderful blackface-era reverb. Enhanced with a bright switch, middle and RAW controls, reverb TONE control, impedance switch and the ability to use 6V6, 6L6 or EL34 power tubes for a truly unique and versatile amp with the best qualities of each era in one handsome package.
So nothing Marshally about it. Just a combination of Fender elements from different eras. Sounds like it would be pretty cool. Kit price for a 1x12 is $1240 - not too bad given the fact that they have to make money too. Of course, if you are a skilled builder, you could pul together the pieces a bit less expensively, but you never know if there is some "magic sauce" in there that you would overlook. I don't know how he does his middle control, and have no idea what the RAW control does, so they could be guesswork at best if you don't use the kit. (The middle control would be easier to guess at than the RAW control of course - probably a 10K or 22K pot in place of or in series with the mid resistor)
Good luck.

Re: Brownsurger amp
The RAW control is a A250K pot that lifts the tone stack above ground potential.

Re: Brownsurger amp
This amp is based on the Princeton with 15w 6V6 power section or 30w with 6L6GC or EL34 power tubes.
Raw control is combination of mid boost and gain boost.
