Thanks Soundperf,
The solo I referred to was on "Desdemona" I think. Derek and Warren trade solos back and forth as usual. Derek went first. I wouldn't have wanted to be Warren right about then. He of course layed down a solo of quality as well. I have the CD in my collection. Maybe I could post it up if it can be downloaded. I'll check out the video, I've often wanted to go to the open house, being a McCarty player myself! :D

Cool......Got a 2001 McCarty myself. Have a Swamp Ash 513 also and mostly have been playing that for the last year or so. But, just the other week I put new strings and set up on the McCarty and been loving it all over again. :D

If you ever get a chance, definitely try and make the open house. It's a great time for all. A guitar players heaven.

I know this started as a EJ thread, but this is the Garage talk section, and we're just talking. I was lucky enough to be at this concert, and The Allmans sell CD's of the concert, so you can have a keepsake. Cool. Warning..there is some really loud feedback at the 50 second mark, so I would keep the volume down until that passes. Dereks solo with his #1 through the PRS amp starts at 3:30 seconds. This solo sticks out in my mind as the greatest live solo I've ever witnessed. This concert was memorable for the great music, but also for the nice guy in front of us that apologized in advance for his behavior that would follow later in the evening, and a girl next to us that my wife dubbed the "crotch troll".....don't ask. If there are any rules being broken by posting purchased concert recordings, then mods please remove and I'm cool with it.

Both Grissom and Trucks are so fun to listen to. Grissom has the whole Texas thing going on and Derek is in a class of his own for sure.

Great thread.

Derek Trucks--oh my. The tone and feeling that flows from his soul--it's like listening to something from another dimension.

Here's my favorite DT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWh8G5VLBWw&feature=plcp Two great solo breaks, and the whole band is just awesome!

I have known Derek since he was a teeny toon. lol

He bought the Johnny Jenkins SG Les Paul that Hendrix accidently broked real good at Atlanta Pop Festival. Now you are finally about to hear what he can really do. ;)

I had airline tickets and concert tickets to that very show....now the sad part. I injured my back to the point of incapacitation 1 week before the concert. We wound up giving the tickets to my sister in law who was in Chicago on business (also unable to attend). She traded the tickets for some labor up there. I still get e-mails from Toyota park. A constant reminder of an opportunity lost forever.

Nice!....I really like the harmonic type feedback thing he's got going around 4:50 seconds. With all this talk of EJ and DT I can't believe I almost forgot I got see Derek open for EJ at a small club in Towson MD. about 10 years ago...or something like that. Pretty cool show. It was right about the time Derek was really starting to make his mark on the world.

Glad you got it posted. Thanks!

martin, cool clip also. Cool vocals, too!!

The EJ PRS amp!

Post by FuzzFaceBuilder »

Eric was playing the 25th Anniversary model that is a dead copy of an old 50 watt Marshall that EJ sold to Paul Smith. Paul dug it so much that he had Doug Sewell copy it for the PRS amp line, apparently down to unwinding the trafos. The channels were summed internally and I'm pretty sure some funky CF and plate resistor values were used as well. Great sounding amp for sure!

EJ sounds great with it HERE!

It looks like he was using it as his dirty rhythm amp.
