What's Albert playing there…is that, like, a quarter-scale guitar?

No ................ Albert was about 6' 5"

When I was in my 20's I got to see Albert for two shows a night, three days in a row (I can get a little obsessive). The first night I got to the club about two hours early to insure my front row seat. Albert was standing in the stage doorway. I get a cocktail napkin and pen and run over for an autograph. "I'm a big fan Mr. King, can I have your autograph?" Albert looks at me, lets out this cloud of blue pipe smoke and says "Son, right now, I'm just trying to get my shit together"

Better that an autograph.

As to the tone is in the hands or the gear. Dual Showman, Acoustic, or Roland Jazz Chorus Albert always sounded the same to me.

Strange that he was so sweaty on the first tune unless that was an edit.

What did he use for that swirly flangy tone?

Sure heard a lot of Albert King in SRV.

I have that CD with Albert and Stevie, Albert talks to the "kid" in between songs.

That swirly tone was his hands I don't think he ever used effects, just his guitar plugged directly in and cranked.

BTW, he wasn't 6'5". I know because I'm 6'5" and he was quite a bit shorter than me, maybe 3-4 inches. His hands were HUGE though, wrapped around mine twice at least.

Kinda funny meeting him. A friend of mine was trying to put on shows and he'd hired T-Bone and Albert for a club gig. I helped with the sound system and waited for Albert in the parking lot. We saw his bus pulling up the street at like 5 mph and stopped about 10 feet in front of us. The door opened and he was at the wheel, polite as can be he asked "are y'all waiting on Albert King?"

When T-Bone got there he looked like a midget next to Albert. My memory of T-Bone was that he was a tiny guy, but that may be because he was standing next to Albert.

He played with his fingers, no pick. That's a big factor in the
stinging tone.
He also used different tunings, some quite detuned to get those bends.
E B G D (from the high strings down) were tuned to C# G# E B.

I think this was the second solo I ever learned. First was "Tribute to Elmore" by Clapton off of (I think), History of British Blues. I bought this book that had transcribed solos of a bunch of blues classics, and this was the first album I found from the book. I learned so much from that solo. His semitone bends are pure sweetness.

I saw Albert 10-12 times live. Most times he played an Acoustic head with a 2-15" cabinet. He would lean his guitar case against the cabinet like a baffle (thankfully)

He also played with a MXR phase 90:

In the last few years he'd play a Roland Jazz Chorus and he'd play with the chorus on very low settings. I's say this is what he's doing with SRV. If you look at videos in the 1989+ era most are with the Roland. I like the sound so much at one time I bought a Jazz Chorus, great amps.

BTW, Albert really was 6'5". I'm 6'1" he was way bigger than me and there are extensive references to his size on the net:
