ABW?

Post by NickC »

Two weeks ago I finished up a build. This is the first time is about two years I haven't had a build (or rebuild) underway.

But I've been feeling antsy, and experiencing other strange symptoms. Like taking inventories of parts. Why would I do that now, when I've never done it before? My policy has always been "If in doubt (about having parts), order more." It's a strategy that has been simple, manageable and effective.

At dinner last night I caught myself ........ in what looked to be ... an attempt to solder two green beans together using the tip of a butter-knife. And what clued me in to paying attention to my behavior was the weird thought that crossed my mind ..... wondering if both beans were NOS or current production. That ain't normal, or is it? Could it be I'm experiencing ABW ... Amp Building Withdrawal?

HA!

You got da bug!

Just don't be soldering parts together in your head when tending to the missus.

They tend to get upset when you do that.

Later on when I have more money than time, I'm going to experiment with single end designs and try to come up with a good grab and go combo.

Don't let that smoke out!

I go to sleep, but not before thinking about things I haven't done yet. I don't sleep well, or much, then I get up and look at resistors for two hours. The parts are all so far away. I wish I could just find a nice girl and settle down. She'd be nice, and kind, and do all my ordering while I try to sleep, or maybe her dad owns a resistor factory.

I'll never know.

Or better yet, just invest in vintage guitars and amps, they are forever....

Unfortunately I didn't heed my own advice...

My wife puts up with it. I used to be on a kick to build amps into strange things like bread pans, lunch boxes, etc.

We were in Ikea and I was looking at a chrome tissue holder. She said "why are you looking.... oh never mind, your going to build an amp in that, aren't you."

Actually I plan on using it for a standalone reverb. It's pretty sturdy, and was only $5.
