Tinnitus - anybody suffering? Any solutions?

My ears ring but I have not had an official diagnosis. I know I can't squirrel hunt and listen for the varmints anymore. I have this clock radio that sounds like rain or a hot summer night or a waterfall. The rain setting works for me. It doesn't bother me until things are very quiet.

Interesting about diabetes/carpel tunnel, It was some 20 years back and defiantly a work related injury
No diabetes in the family, and I'm too poor to eat my self to death.

I go on long quiet walks for the ringing, exercise, stay hydrated give my ears a rest ,it helps .

Yeah I agree its mostly really keeping yourself occupied so you dont focus too much on the noise. Hmm, hunting sounds like something I could try. Guess treatment or a cure is something to be considered if it really bothers you and affects your daily routines.

As with Structo I have tinnitus of very high freq which came on about 3 years ago.
Medical advice I've had has suggested that often the condition is neurological, generated in the brain. As age or environmental factors cause slight hearing loss the brain compensates by generating the missing stimulus, especially at high end of the auditory spectrum.
Being a neurological compensation would explain the condition getting worse when the auditory nerve is severed as described above. Also why it is louder when all else is quiet - it isn't just that the silence makes you notice it more but it really is louder as the brain overcompensates.
Relief is sometimes obtained by feeding the brain an auditory stimulus such that it doesn't feel the need to generate its own. Thus, some sufferers find having a white noise generator (or whatever colour generator does the job) providing an ambient background relieves tinnitus.
