I want to learn to draw out a chassis (CAD program?) on the computer so that a CNC machine shop fabricate it.
Does anyone have experience with this? What program work well? Any of the free programs good?

Try eMachineshop.com nice program and exports to DXF format. Allows reviewing in a 3D format.

Yes, I have ordered a few prototype parts from them, I normally use a local shop for my mass orders.dreric wrote:Thanks Gary

Thier workmanship (eMachineshop) is pretty good and their welding (a bit pricy) is first rate.

Re: Software to draw chassis
I draw all of mine in CorelDraw since I've been using it for decades now and still love it, so it's just the easiest thing for me to use.
I have a great 3rd party DXF export tool from Leonard CNC that produces really good DXF files that I've never had a problem getting anyone to manufacture from.
It also helps that I can design my faceplates for cutting and etching at the same time, thus guaranteeing a 100% perfect fit.
Never tried any of the free offerings though.
