Hard to believe it was 21 years ago.

No kidding.
I used to live next to the Oregon State Fair grounds and he played there that summer.
I sat on my front porch and listened, it was very clear.
Two weeks later he was dead.

Such a tragic loss.
He had a huge impact on the music industry in general and on a hell of a lot of guitar players in particular.

I was at that show and it was absolutely phenomenal! Without a doubt it was the best show I've ever seen. Then I left for Boot Camp and got this sad news a couple of weeks later.Structo wrote:No kidding.

RIP SRV
Just a newbie looking for that perfect sound...

We were devasted when we heard about SRV's death.
I was fortunate enough to have caught his show just prior to this.
Fantastic performer.

Yeah, I remember that day like yesterday sitting in my car thinking should I go to that concert??? Thinking maybe it will be the last time I may have a chance to see SRV (thinking of him retiring or other... not what DID happen....) Ultimately I stayed home as I had just seen Clapton not too long before.
The morning after, that is all that was on the Milwaukee Radio stations, very somber for sure.
I guess I should Live and Learn from the voices in my head... From my friends who were there they said SRV's performance was amazing.
Yes, SRV RIP

His last album was his best and most creative. Clean and sober after a long climb of addiction and sleeping on any couch or pool table he could find. He lived it and owned it. The loss is what he didn't get to achieve. RIP Stevie.
I've got blisters on my fingers!

Re: R.I.P Stevie Ray Vaughn
I remember listening to the early reports of a helicopter crash. They reported that both Clapton and SRV were on board and that one of them died. I can remember being shocked and having some very odd thoughts about what my preference would be...
I saw SRV many times. Once, in a little club here in Colorado Springs with maybe 150 people in attendance. This was very early in his solo career. Great show. One of the best shows I have ever seen was SRV and Jeff Beck in Denver. SRV opened it and set the bar high. Beck responded in kind. They closed the show with a few numbers together. That was a MAGICAL night. My friends and I still disagree about which one 'stole' the show. Good times.
In Step is a great album and so is Family Style. I still include Riveria Paradise in my set lists on most nights. That song is incredible and I take great care to play it the way it was intended to be played. With that being said, I get really turned off by the quantity of guitarists that take the liberty to hack Stevie's songs. I have heard my fill of bad renditions of his stuff.

I saw him just weeks before he died at the Gorge at George, a really cool outdoor amphitheater in WA state. He was incredible. It was tough to get close enough to the stage to see him well, but I sure do remember Voodoo Chile Slight Return blasting across the Columbia River.
I'm still amazed at how some people can be so talented at such a young age - it must be a divine gift. RIP Stevie.
