they do look like el84 on paper but I read a few times about them being too bright or something...sounding bad in general. Try searching on ax84

ECL82: a triode and a pentode in one bottle
EL84: single pentode.
They look alike?
Even if you compare only the pentodes there's no similarity neither in physical appearance nor in electrical specifications.

Mikey, as Aleksander said, they not compatible to EL84 tubes.
Don't listen to any internet armchair experts about tubes being boring or something, put the Brimar ECL82 in a late fifties Dynacord KV10 and you will have those guys cowering behind the sofa.

FWIW the ECL86 has an EL84-like pentode inside the envelope (and a 12AX7-like triode).

The ECL82 has a pentode but it is slightly lower-powered than an EL84, and the triode is more like a 5751 AFAICT

Not ax7 like, closer to an AU7 iirc.. still a great triode/pentode combo fwiw..

ECL82 is the same as the 6BM8

http://www.duncanamps.com/tdsl/show.php?des=6BM8

I used that tube to built a mini-bassman and it works well as a low power (~~7w PP) studio amp. I used the triodes for the LTP inverter & an 8k (or 6.6k.....can't remember) Deluxe-type OT.

All the guitars on the following link are the above mentioned amp.

There are 2x different clips of the amp on the "playlist" @ that link......"Spanky Blues 6BM8" and my personal favorite, "Smooth Hot Potato"
