Anyone have a guitar amp blue book?

Post by kevster »

Anyone have access to a guitar amplifier blue book? I've got a Marshall Valvestate Model #8240 I want to get rid of and I wondered what the value was. It would be considered average or better condition.

Anyone got any sources?

Thanks in advance.

I do (not here at home, but at the shop), but frankly, I'd look elsewhere. The last one (at least, the last I'm aware of) was published 4-5 years ago, and is hopelessly out of date. Go on eBay and check up on recent auctions.

$400 for very good, and $450 for excellent condition, according to my 2010 Vintage Guitar Price Guide. Since this book is a year old, these prices are only approximate of course.

Blue Books are a neat way to browse gear but hardley worth the paper they are printed on for finding $ value in musical equipment.

I have better then a blue book... Here is the current market value based on national craigslist and ebay 8240 for sale.

selloutrr - I use the jaxed site all time since you pointed it out. It is very valuable to me. Thanks.

IMO, the results returned by the jaxed search do not reflect actual sales prices. Yes, it provides a ballpark figure, but those prices do not reflect any negotiation that may have occured on Craigslist and also do not indicate the final result of the auctions on Ebay. Many times what is listed in the Jaxed search is a starting price.

According to my 2007 Guitar Amplifier Blue Book, a Model 8240 80W 212 combo in average condition is worth $225-275, and in excellent condition $375-450.

But like I said, that is an old book, from before the financial meltdown, and the value has almost certainly changed since then. The best way to figure these things out is a combination of calling local music shops and checking finished eBay auctions.

if they get bid on I've watch thousands of items never get a bid because they are priced out of the market.
