http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf
Please read the bill. After making LAWFUL contact, officers must be able to prove reasonable suspicion that a person is here illegally before questioning their citizenship status. Racial profiling is specifically prohibited in the bill - but it would never hold up in court anyway.
A driver's license or other AZ Government ID is considered proof of citizenship and no further inquiries to the status of one's citizenship will be made (no reasonable suspicion).
I support the bill (like 70% of all AZ residents), especially after a 6-month stint on a grand jury last year. Law enforcement should be able to enforce our federal illegal immigration laws.

Papers please...... what if I'm out of state with an expired drives license?
If its like going through airline security ..... step this way sir
What kind of ID will the state require you to pay for to show the pigs your not a wop.
Sounds like a cheap scam to fill a budget hole.
Whats the kick back for the officer per wop? will be more ok to beat a wop?
Its fine, he just a wop, he'll be back next week if I don't break his leg.
Look at that one she's cute, and she's just a wop, and she can't speak English even if she tries.
When you allow state policy to classify another human as being less than
you, It puts you in a whole other realm of primate behavior, you could say its a gas.

Re: Boycot Arizona
I just read this law. Considering the reaction, I expected to find horrible things in it. Actually, there's almost nothing new, just a restatement of existing state and Federal law. Local and state police have been authorized to enforce US immigration law since the forties; resident aliens have been required (under US Code) to carry their "papers" with them since the forties. If you're in the country legally, no change. If you're in the country illegally and you do nothing to bring yourself to the attention of the police, no change. If you're in the country illegally AND you commit another crime, the penalties are stiffer (like no early release), but legislatures increase penalties for second offenses all the time.
If anything, this law is more protective of citizens (and non-citizens) because it spells out what the police may and may NOT do at a traffic stop, or in an arrest for another cause.
Tempest in a teapot if you ask me.

Re: Boycot Arizona
Yes the pundits are screaming bloody murder about the Gestapo tactics of "Show Me Your Papers".
Nothing has changed, they have just authorized the police to check citizenship status if the subject is stopped for another offense.
Plain and simple, people are fed up with illegal workers taking jobs away from legal citizens.
Especially during this recession, jobs are scarce.
I don't care what color or race they are, if they are here illegally then they need to leave.

Re: Boycot Arizona
but if you fill a prison with illegal's, they'll still be taking jobs away from
American prisoners.
Get your your self deported for a blown tail light, if you don't have your papers in order.
Its bad enough as it is, at least with the economy in the tank they'll have no
budget to enforce it anyway. If you have sun tan and no papers stay out of Arizona.
So your rounded up, processed, and then what, give them a tattoo so they're
easier to process next week.
The real issue is the economy is crap, if you want to maintain a standard of living
you actually have to pay a living wage. Profits come first so you need cheap
labor. I'd rather see it made by a Mexican in America than in China.
I don't see shanties, bum's sleeping on the street, are people pulling roots
to find jobs. Wal marts still screwing everyone with over seas product.
and there's a labor pool right there.
Sounds like a good place to manufacture tubes. If the pay is good you'll
have to deport illegal American's from Mexico.

They don't deport illegals from Mexico. It's a felony. They put you in jail. (If you're lucky).

From:
"David LaBonte"
My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful
letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course,
was not printed. So, I decided to "print" it myself by
sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so
inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the
editor in the Orange County Register:
Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island
and other ports of entry.
Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people
like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept
this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when
there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the
United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a
long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get
down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made
a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in
good and bad times. They made learning English a primary
rule in their new American households and some even changed
their names to blend in with their new home.
They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their
children a new life and did everything in their power to
help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was
handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws
to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.
Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out.
My father fought along side men whose parents had come
straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None
of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought
about what country their parents had come from. They were
Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of
Japan . They were defending the United States of America as
one people.
When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking
for the French-American or the German American or the Irish
American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we
carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of
those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up
another country's flag and waving it to represent who they
were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had
sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew
what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting
pot into one red, white and blue bowl.
And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same
rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by
playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the
entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their
mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American
is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on
Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that
for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future
generations to create a land that has become a beacon for
those legally searching for a better life. I think they
would be appalled that they are being used as an example by
those waving foreign country flags.
And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on
the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about
dismantling the United States just yet.

Re: Boycot Arizona
Dear one term President Obama and future Ex-senators;
I'm planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico because I can no longer afford to pay taxes here and I would like to ask you to assist me.
We're planning to simply walk across the border from the U. S. Into Mexico, and we'll need your help to make a few arrangements.
We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws.
I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, Pres. Calderon, that I'm on my way over?
Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I need, whether I use them or not.
3. Please print all Mexican government forms in English.
4. I want my grandkids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking
(bi-lingual) teachers.
5. Tell their schools they need to include classes in American culture and history.
6. I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one of the flag poles at their school.
7. Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I have easy access to government services.
9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico, but, I don't plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won't make any special effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every patrol car has at least one English-speaking officer.
11. I plan to fly the U. S. Flag from my housetop, put U S. Flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a good job without paying any taxes, or having any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start.
13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we place on their economy.
14. I want to receive free food stamps.
15. Naturally, I'll expect free rent subsidies.
16. I'll need Income tax credits so although I don't pay Mexican Taxes, I'll receive money from the government.
17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Gov't pays $4,500 to help me buy a new car.
18. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me for free into the Mexican Social Security program so that I'll get a monthly income in retirement.
I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all his people who walk over to the U. S. from Mexico. I am sure that President Calderon won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.
Thank you so much for your kind help. You're the man!!!

Re: Boycot Arizona
the problem is the democrats want the votes and the republicans want the cheap labor. that's why nothing gets done about it. Moreover, mexico is a third world country run by a ruthless drug cartel that is funded with drug money. We can go into iraq and spend billions to secure the region and our addiction to foreign oil, but we can't spend a dime to straighten out mexico and secure our borders and the economic structure of north america. How much have we spent maintaining a corporate prison system fueled by the war on drugs? it's a monster and a racket. Do some research.
This country is motivated by individual personal wealth and gain above and beyond what it takes to make a person happy in life. it will be our downfall eventually. just a matter of time.

Re: Boycot Arizona
My advice don't make it a political issue make this a humanitarian issue and I have family and friends that are Mexican, most legal some illegal.
I'm tired being told I'm not politically correct. Why the hell should I pay taxes for people that want me to change America for them.
There is no civial rights for illegal aliens period
You would have to be a complete moron to thing that USA can work out the issues of the country of Mexico.

Re: Boycot Arizona
I am astounded to find out that illegal aliens do have civil rights.
Years ago my grandmother ran into a car full of them.
Injuring three.
A couple days later she got a letter saying she was going to be sued for damages.
Well I don't want anybody to be hurt but they shouldn't have been at point A in the first place but they were and they got hurt.
I can't remember all the details but I think her insurance paid them off.
