I've got one of these old Danelectro's, 6SJ7 for the trem as well as the preamp. Talk about low gain, this thing only begins to break up with a LPB in front of it. The trem is pretty mild, but pleasing - could be those crappy old RCA, Philco, and GE tubes need replacing though :
