I've been researching a supro thunderbolt build and I've found a lot of good info on the thunderbolt circuit. What I haven't found is any information of the cabinet and chassis. So I'm hoping one of you out there in amp building land either has a thunderbolt that they would be willing to measure up for me or has done a build like this in the past and would be willing to share some info on the cabinet and chassis dimensions.
If anyone has done a build like this before I'd love to hear about your experiences.
Also if anyone is in the York, Maine / Portsmouth , NH area and has one I would LOVE to come by and check it out.
I have one in the shop with the 15" Jensen speaker (sounds killer by the way). I know you said you had what you need electronically, but FWIW here is the exact schematic from this amp: http://mhuss.com/AmpInfo/Schematics/Sup ... erbolt.pdf
I can dig it out in a day or two and send you some measurements if you want.

Mark, that would be a HUGH help. What I really need is the length, height, and depth at the top and bottom of the cabinet. With that I can figure out the taper of the front and back. Also the height of those panels on the back. And for the chassis just the height, width of the section where the tubes are mounted and the width of the face where the controls are mounted.
Here is the schematic I've been working off so far.
Yours confirms the values and also gives me some more voltages to reference. Very helpful!
I also noticed that your schematic shows shielded wire running from the PI to the power tubes. I haven't seen that on any of the photo's I've been looking at but it make a lot of sense. The thing that I'm most concerned about with this build is the long runs of wire from the preamp side of the chassis to the power amp side. Seems like a lot of potential for noise. I bet using shielded wire for those runs from the PI to the power tubes will really help.

Hey Mark, I am considering building one of these with a 15: speaker. Can you give a more detailed description on how it sounds and maybe compare it to other common amps. Thanks

Here is a link to a good youtube clip. This is the clip that go me thinking about a Thunderbolt build.
How about some thoughts on transformers? Mercury Magnetics makes a set for the Thunderbolt but they are $290 w/o a 5v tap and $340 w/ the tap. I have also thought about using a generic set of Fender style 2 6l6 transformers. I don't believe the PT would an issue but not knowing the specifics of the Thunderbolt OT I'm hesitant to go with a generic 2 6L6 OT.
What do you guys think? Is it worth the extra $ to get the Mercurys.
Personally I think about 35% of the price for Mercury Magnetic transformers is you paying for that brand name.
They do have good name recognition but personally I think there are several as good transformers for a lot less money.
But of course when you sell an amp on ebay and have MM trannies in it,
You can state, "This amp is equipped with Mercury Magnetics Transformers".
Check out this shootout of output transformers and you tell me which one you like the tone of.

And that plus $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee!
So no objections to my choice of iron. How about the speaker? Any have anything against the reissue Jensen C15N? I usually use webers but thought I would try something different. I've found a few reviews of the C15N but not enough to make me sure it's a decent speaker.
What do you guys think, Webers version of the C15N or new Jenson C15N?
