Anybody using the EH 6cg7/6fq7? It looks to be a 9 pin tube with similar
characteristics as a 6sn7. Its in some later Silvertones, 1485's and 1484's.
I have a proposition to build a Silvertone circuit and have started to explore.

Re: 6cg7 EH
Andy,
I don't have experience with the tube, but the spec sheet sure says the 6FQ7 and the 6SN7 are the same tube. Both of these are mighty close to the 12AU7. With a minor tweak to the cathode resistor on a 12AU7, you could probably get a 12AU7 to perform about the same as the 6FQ7.
You might also look at the 12SN7, as a cheap alternative to the 6SN7, but then you'll need 12.6v filament supply. Actually all of these tubes should be relatively inexpensive.
Good luck.
Phil

Re: 6cg7 EH
Thank for the reply. I was looking a a silvertone (dano) scheme and had a
"jeez, whats that" moment. I dug up some earlier silvertone info and it looks
like the brand used 6sn7 in similar circuits, same values, etc... and that
6cg7/6fq7 were used later as a sub when the brand was farmed out to
another manufacture. I was surprised to see it as a current production tube.
Would love to have a 9-pin that came close to the 6sn7. Voltage gains are
a little more than a 12au7, about half that of a 12at7, but its the plate dissipation
that makes it, each plate for 6sn7 is 5w, 6cg7 is 4w, but the 12au7 is 2.75w.

Re: 6cg7 EH
I've just gotten some new tung-sol 6SN7 and 6SL7 tubes for some projects I've had on the bench and been very happy with them. About 15 bucks apiece.
They are cheap NOS sometimes too.
Anyway, thought I'd throw that in there in case it helped...

The current production Tung-Sol? I'm always hoping for good practical reviews
on current production tubes. Some of the NOS 6sn7 are god like, they're
reputation is well deserved. I'm very lucky to have the few that I do.
The sovtek 6sl7 worked ok but its tuff to compare to NOS too, what circuits
are you useing the tung sol in?, plate voltage?
