Sorry, I don't understand why you'd want to do that. If you want that sound, just get that amp. 'Wrecks have their own special sound.

If you have an Expression and want that sound..................check out the 1968 Marshall JMP 50 Watt 1987 Specs Metroamp Kit and adjust as necessary. If you don't have an Expression.....................build a 1968 Marshall JMP 50 Watt 1987 Specs Metroamp Kit.

It's a great rig, but you still need around 4-5 with low watt speakers to get the thump you'd like to expect. There is no substitute for cubic inches, in cars and moving air.

Well, if you REALLY want your TW to sound like a Plexi, you might try something like this...

BTW, the layout is NOT complete or correct so don't try this unless you know the circuits (Plexi and TW). Obviously the bias caps are the wrong values...just a drag and drop from my stencil. However, the preamp layout is probably close to where I would start if I were prototyping this.

I think Reeltarded is probably right actually.

The gain will be well up but PPIMV is probably on position 1 (since Marshall panels are labelled 1-10).

With the gain up on my 100 watter I can comfortably get into objectionable neighbour territory with the master on 1!

Back to the original question though, why try to make an Express sound like that? An Express sounds like an Express and a Marshall sounds like a Marshall. Build a Marshall if that's the tone you're looking for.

The Marshall definately has more thump. The Wreck has a more forward low-mids/mids, and that more pronounced peaky in the highs, plus enough gain to want it rolled back a little.

Have you heard a Wreck'd Marshall? If you jibber with the tone stack, you can get all the gain, and all the thump. I don't pay attention to what all those changes are... but.. My only dislike of a straight Express is the low end. I have heard Marshalls every day for 30 years, I miss the lows.
