Epi valve standard

Post by Granite777 »

It has a noise a rattle in it and it seems to get a darker tone the longer I play it. I changed the tubes to RCA's and it helped some. But I played it again last night and got that rattle noise again. I even went in and grounded all the pots to see if that would help. I just wanted to know if any body had any ideas to help me kill this problem. I see in the valve jr they cut a jp1 jumper. I wonder if that can be done in this amp. I can use any advice out there. Thanks Granite777

Your talking about a stock Valve Junior Epiphone the combo model or head? What speaker are you using that you get this dark sound and rattle? Turret Boards.com has alot of info on this amp if you like.

Mark, the Valve Standard is the big brother to the Junior, I believe it's 15 watts with DSP. To the OP - I'm not sure what it is that rattles, but I have heard quite a few complaints to that effect. Not having actually heard the rattle myself it's hard to say where it's coming from but if the cabinet is made from crappy plywood (probably a safe assumption) the rattle could be a small piece rattling around in a void in the wood. If it's something else though you can probably track it down by having someone else play while you check out the amp.

Maybe try plugging the Standard's output into another cabinet and see what happens. Then try another to drive the cabinet of the Standard with another amp. It might help you figure out where the problem is coming from.
