International adapter

Post by skyboltone »

Hey Fellers:
Anybody got experience with these things.

http://cgi.ebay.com/POWERBRIGHT-VC300W- ... 18Q2el1247

At 300 watts it seems like it would be adequate but not robust. Does it need to be? I have to be able to run amps made for the UK and I don't want to be trying out stuff and throwing it out because it won't do the job.

Thanks
Dan

My experience with the ones I bought in manhattan is that they put out too high voltage, eg 250V instead of 220/230V.

I use a variac with mine. My converter is 3kW but I run a lot of stuff on it. I bought it after smoking a smaller one....

Do not skimp on wattage here!

Good luck!

Don't forget though that, despite Europe harmonising on 230V rather than the 220V and 240V we used to use, most countries actually stayed the same since the tolerances available were wide enough to accommodate it.

So, whilst the UK is notionally 230V, we're actually still 240V and getting up to 250V out of the wall is normal. France, for instance, may well still be 220V at the wall against a notional 230V.

Got it a few years ago...looked the same except it was white...so i got a 1000w that still goes and goes...

Well there you go. That's the information. I've got a line on a 1kva 480/240 transformer that I'm going to hook up backwards. I've done this in the industrial world many times so I know it will work.
