My Gretsch cleanup

Post by gahult »

Oh, a day to build up the courage and take it apart. A day to clean it, and a day to reassemble. I used Orange Blast. The cabinet didn't want to clean up at first, so I took a toothbrush and scrubbed it on a small spot, it came clean, so much area I got a soft bristled fingernail brush and went over it. That brought the dirt right up out of the stitched thread pattern, nice and white again. Even the Orange Blast didn't want to clean the chassis, so I tried some Mothers Mag and Chrome polish with it. It cleaned it like right now. Its all original, except for the screws and finishing washers that would not clean and polish, but I'll have the originals in a bag secured in the cabinet.
Hey, thanks for looking. I'll be around here once in a while. Like this site.

Gary

I'm bringing this old thread back up because it is such a great restoration job you did and others should see this beauty.

In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird , and they take Prozac to make it normal.

Yeah I was wondering about that Part 1, 2, 3 thing sorry Gary.

I only wish I could find a good old amp project like that. I sent an email to my co-workers so be on the look out for any and all guitar tube amps, organ tube amps, tube PAs, roller ring tube amps, old Hi-fi/Lo-fi tube amps. Maybe I will get lucky.

The chrome and graphics from pages 1 and 2 look fabulous. Does it really look that good, or are the photos just being generous?

The pictures are accurate with exception of the grill cloth which is discolored more
than shown in the pictures and has a bit more wear than pictured.

There is a bit of rust/corrosion on the hardware that attaches the handle.

Other than age it hasn't done badly since I bought it back in 65' :)

Nice job, Gary!

How do you like those Jensen Special Design speakers? I pulled one out of a 60's Wurlitzer and I'm getting ready to build a cab for it.
