Fender Prosonic 2x10 ohmage

Post by drummer »

Hi,
I have a Fender Prosonic 2x10 combo that I just took the guts out to use as a cab (plus it is rediculously heavy.)
When testing the ohms it reads 13.7 or just about. Speakers are stock and supposedly It is designed to run at 16 ohms.
Could I have the meter set wrong, or is this something Zinky wired on purpose?
I have a TW clone head that is 4,8,16 so should I set it to 16 or 8?
thank you

The measured dc resistance of a speaker will always be a lower number than the actual impedance. 13.7Ω on your meter is a very typical number for a 16Ω impedance speaker. So, set your amp to 16Ω.

Awesome, I thought so just didn't want any damage.
Thank you
If I could figure out how to use the disabled reverb tank in the cab for any head that would be something!

That would be a miracle. You can't just put a tank in any head and have reverb. The tank is only a part of the reverb. There's a lot of circuitry involved too.

The prosonic has a switch to set the output transformer to 4,8 or 16 ohms.

The two 16 ohm drivers where wired in parallel for a 8 ohm load.
If your running your clone amp with both speakers then you would once again use the 8 ohm setting.

I guess you're talking about the head only version? The combo schematic I see has no impedance selector switch and the two speakers are wired in series...

Yeah the combo has no ohm selector, stock rating is 16
