Negative feedback?
I was looking at schematics in the Tube Amp Book last night, specifically a champ and a princeton (non reverb, its the first princeton in there), and they look dang near identical, except for a little detail of how the power supply is wired and one other thing. That was interesting. Anyway there was a wire going from the OT secondary back into the preamp. Is that negative feedback?
Re: Negative feedback?
Yes. There is no other reason I can think of offhand to connect the OT secondary back into the preamp.

Princeton was often just a higher price Champ. Usually bigger speaker, sometimes bigger iron, sometimes an extra knob.
Just as with Chevy-Buick-Cadillac, frills from the Cadillac trickle down. The Cadillac has to dream up bigger frills to stay ahead. Princeton grew to two-6V6 while Champ stayed one-6V6. The Champ eventually got so many knobs that they quit offering the Princeton version. Then the Champ got two power bottles and every possible frill. Some of the late Champs lost all their charm.
But before they lost their way, the Champ was minimal and the Princeton was the same plan built to a higher price.

PRR, you seem to be a very champy sort of fellow.. What's your favorite champ.. or rather, favorite 2: 1 stock fender, and one champ-like tweaked out job.
