Should OT Primary And Secondaries Wires Be Kept Apart?

Post by Cathode Ray »

Electro-mechanical question..

Inside the chassis, should the Pri & Sec wiring from the output transformer be kept away from each other, or only cross each other perpendicular ?

Or can they be bound together (ty-wrap, shrink tubing) to keep things tidy ?

In terms of any possible noise, inductance, etc.

Thanks :!:

Tidy can be the enemy of good. The pri and sec leads go to different places. So route them there with the most direct path that avoids cross coupling to other parts of the circuitry.

Pretty much my thinking when I started to ty-wrap them together to keep things neat under the circuit board.

Thanks.

OT primary wires carry the highest voltage signal levels - keep them well away from any preamp circuitry to avoid inadvertent feedback resulting in oscillation problems.
The OT secondaries are less of a problem. Signal voltages are much lower and they represent a low impedance with respect to signal ground.

I try to separate the OT primaries and secondaries to minimize risk of oscillation. Also, these wires should be kept away from the preamp

Inside the transformer primary and secondary windings are separated only by thin insulation layers. It shouldn't make much of a difference if the secondary and primary wires coming out of the transformer are kept apart from each other or not.

This makes perfect sense.

It just worked out that I ran them to only cross each other parallel, but next time I remember this.

Good evening to you! Gentlemen, I am new to the TOs calling to mind, so on my two model amps that I created, I also say; I had to inverter the screens of one of the UL OT, to avoid swinging, when there are two, sometimes that can create this problem

Bear in mind the magnitude of the magnetic field is propotional to the current in the conductor, not the voltage. That should make the secondary, and the 6V pwr xfmr leads the primary radiators. Regardless, run your leads using good layout principles and you'll be fine.
