MarsChamp

Post by 10thTx »

Not really Marshall nor Champ but some inspiration from both. This turned out really nice tone wise. Decent headroom for a low watt single ended amp. VERY quiet at idle & louder then I anticipated when cranked. Sounds very nice thru a Emminence 1058 (10" speaker cab). While the active FX on a small watt single ended amp sounds "odd", it actually works quite well and I'm glad it is there.

Just thought I'd share in case someone wants to try this.

(This was a conversion from a tube preamp for an acoustic guitar & I added the 6V6 single ended power amp to it)

With the 10" speaker you might audition a 150 uf bypass cap on the output tube.

Sweet cab! It deserves a powdercoated or painted chassis. Do you make all your own cabs?
You are so active, with many designs and builds, where do you find the time? I have been retired since Dec. and don't have the time on the bench as much as I'd like.

Yes, I always build my own cabs. Part of the fun for me. Chassis front and back panel is painted with auto lacquer spray can. Been doing that for over 10 yrs and it is remarkably durable. I just spray a base coat and then clear coats over that.

The amp is being given to someone and it was determined that a combo cab would be a better choice then the head cab. So, I built this.

I am VERY happy with how this amp sounds. I've tried it both with humbuckers and single coils & think it sounds great with either.

The combo cab has an Emminence 1058 in it.

I've renamed it the Carolina SongBird 2018. It's a gift to someone so I thought I'd make some quick soundclips of how it sound before passing it on.

I think it has very decent headroom for a single ended 3-4 watt amp. This recording was done with a delay pedal set so light on delay that you could barely hear any delay at all. Once recorded, I then added some different amounts of delay and compression and EQ on each of the sound clips which combined together are about 4.5 minutes total.

I used a 335 style semi-hollow body on the jazz clip. I used a Tele with H-S-H. I used another Tele with strat single coil pickups. Emminence 1058 10" speaker.
