Pop when taking off Standby
Although I waited sufficient time after turning the Power on, Laney VH100R pops when taking off Standby. This happens even if after hours of playing I turn the Standby On and then Off to play again, it pops again. I tried changing the tubes, all pre-amp 12ax7's and power tubes 6L6's or EL34's so it is not the tubes. Happens all the same. Any ideas or expiriences please.

Re: Pop when taking off Standby
Your amp does not have a tube rectifier, right? Don’t worry about it. Better yet, don’t use the stand by switch at all.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com
Re: Pop when taking off Standby
common solutions are either a 100k+ power resistor across the standby switch or grid resistors on the power tubes

UPDATE !!!!! Problem is developing further, when I take it off Standby there is three options now:
1. No sound at all, nothing happens,
2. Just hum, noise
3. Pops but works again...
I am suspecting the actual Standby Switch is gone bad ? I checked the diodes right after the switch, they are conducting in one direction, not conducting in other. So diodes are OK.. Any other ideas?

Re: Pop when taking off Standby
As xtian noted, just don't use the standby, it's not needed. If you feel it could be the culprit, though, you could try seeing if you can get some deoxit inside, the snapping often indicates arcing due to the contacts not switching in fast/smoothly enough, and no power occasionally could mean some build up of gunk on the contacts. Standby switches are a poorly designed mute and not needed anyway.Emetal wrote: ↑Fri Mar 09, 2018 5:01 pm UPDATE !!!!! Just jump the switch and power it up that way.

X2 your standby switch is failing.

Re: Pop when taking off Standby
Yeap, it was the switch! I know the amp is OK without it but I just got a brand new one today anyway, just to keep the amp in original shape if I ever wanna sell it, buyers are weird that way
Everything is perfect and silent now. Thanks everybody
