transformer question
quick question. got an upgraded ot for my bassman and the mounting holes didn't quite line up with the holes in the chassis so I opted to ream out the holes in the flange a bit. while doing so I slipped and put a small scratch across about three of the laminations. aren't they coated or something so they don't arc across each other? did I destroy this thing?
Re: transformer question
There's no reason I can think of to be concerned. The typical process involves dipping and baking the transformer. During baking, some varnish gets sucked in between the lams. A little exterior scratch across the lams should not be a concern.

Re: transformer question
oh good. thanks for the reply. on a totally different topic I will never build in such I small chassis again you can barely move in this thing!
Re: transformer question
Tell us, what circuit are you building? What size chassis? If you are building with a turret or eyelet board, it is best to put that together first and then drop it into the chassis. Meanwhile, put all the other stuff on to the chassis. It makes for more turning room while under construction.

Re: transformer question
its the 5f6a. mojo kit with eyelet card. that's just how I am doing it, still though I think when I do a scratch build one day I think I will allow twice as much room. this sucker is tight

Re: transformer question
Now you see why Leo used Lupe Lopez and the other lovely ladies to assemble the guts. Their smaller fingers made it a lot easier. I had the same fun doing a 5e3 build.
Re: transformer question
Are you using their 20"x4" chassis for a combo? No wonder. 4" is tight. Its what you need for a standard combo cabinet. I've never built a combo. Build a head with a 7" or 8" x 17". Lots of real estate.
