tube reverb

Post by schaublin65 »

Hi,

this is a tube town (german) reverb kit that I'm putting together for my brother.

It's a little rough at this stage but I wanted to post something build related for my second post.

The tagstrip is not from the kit and this is the first time I've built on it.

Thanks to everyone who helps make this little corner of the internet such a cool place.

Take care...

John

Looking very nice thus far.

That has to be the best filtered power supply I have ever seen!

Hi,

Thanks for the comments. It was just a quick shot from my phone.

Hans-jörg my brother was delighted to hear you like the finished unit.

The tagstrip is recycled and took him many hours with desoldering braid to clean up.

xtian the grounds are 1.7 mm diameter solid. I often repair/recap PCBs in the equipment I work on professionally. If I'm soldering for amusement I like 2W resistors and a 1920's radio aesthetic.

Kazooman you are right. The power supply is apparently good for a 50W amp. Its a CRCRC setup and the 100uF caps are stacked so its 100uF/700v 470R 50uF/700v 1K0R 20uF.

Unloaded I have 300v HT and 7v heaters. On a scope there is a 1v sine but I expect it will quieten down under load.

Take care....

Hi Kagliostro,

I'm really just following the layout for the kit. It isn't the way I would have chosen myself.

The tag strip is interesting to work with. I have an old JMI AC30 that is built with it and I have read that Cornford still use it. Traditional English amp wiring?

It's really good to use even if it looks a bit mad when you first see it.

It's just about fully wired so I will post another shot of it soon.

Take care...

That kind of board is an UK "standard"

many Vox amps use that kind of support for components

now a day you can find easily this kind of board, only it is small

version, with 18 position for components (two rows) not the old

long version that was disposable some years ago

Hi Kagliostro,

These are from an early sixties Vox AC30 (JMI)

As you can see they are not in perfect shape. :(

So I thought that building the reverb on tagstrip would be good experience.

Take care....

I think those are very rare, keep it for a Vox restoration (may be not yours)

someone can higly appreciate those as spare parts

I went to the Tube-Town website to look at your reverb kit. It says that the circuit is based on the original Fender stand-alone reverb. I own one of those from the early sixties. You are really going to love the sound.

A few years ago I built a clone of the unit from scratch just for fun. I used eyelet board and followed the original Fender layout of the components.

Here are some pics.

Hi,

So it's alive!

No problems on power up. My brother is playing thru it now.

Sounds good even with the kit supplied tubes.

Finished build picture tomorrow when it's bright. Cold beer for me now.

Take care...

Fantastic!

How is the reverb pan mounted or is it in a bag? The original Fender design uses light springs at the corners of the pan to suspend it in air. There is a clamp to hold it down for transporting.
