Coming down to the wire. I want a Marshall with 4 x Kt88/6550. A 100Watter is easy to set up and no problem. But a major clone would be AWESOME! But I want to get some wallet friendly transformers, mainly I'm stuck when it comes to the PT. What Hammond tranny would work? And I can't find the specs for a major PT.
I play bass for most gigs so I need to power and ungodly volume, 200W would be better than 100W.

278CX would work but you may consider a separate filament transformer.
1650TA would work for the OT. Probably conservatively rated at 120W.
I think Mouser and AES had them last I checked. I'd love to see the build!

Re: MARSH MAJOR TRANS?!
The Majors where UL output stage , is that what you have heard and liked the nature enough to build and spend that kind of money on transformers for ?
Also make NOTE big time that a 200 watt amp is not twice as loud as a 100 watt amp, I play bass mainly also and let me tell you that even though it's a pain in the ass dragging around twice the number of speakers will provide you with way more of what you are looking for that going from 100 watts to 200!!

Xander,
You might consider getting by with less power by using a very efficient speaker design. This can give you the same SPL with less back breaking weight. Have a look at Bill Fitzmaurice's Jack 15 lites. Unfortunately for us old guys with bad backs, the days of humping around SVT's and even Twins or Super's are a memory. At this stage, a good tube preamp with a lite cab and a 500W or better Class D amp fit the bill. The best time I had was just out of high school when I got to borrow a friend's Fender 400PS with the big ass folded horn. I'd hate to have to move it today though.

Re: MARSH MAJOR TRANS?!
I'd go for a tube preamp plus class D poweramp too.

Re: MARSH MAJOR TRANS?!
With only one cabinet on the 400PS head you where only getting 1/3 of its 435 watt rms power it could output! due to the way that OT was wound!
I was going to buy one of those 400s in 72 for Bass and I even checked out the big ass 4-12" Gauss driver loaded cabinet Fender offered for it, but just the 95 lb weight of that head alone was too much to drag around 6 nights a week, instead I bought a Kustom 250 head with a Altec Lasning 2-15" 421 driver loaded cabinet and it blew that Fender and its single folded horn cabinett into the weeds as long as you did not have to project bass out more than 30 ft, at that point the folded 18 cabinet was better!!

Re: MARSH MAJOR TRANS?!
I don't ever mind running a full stack or two!
Was looking to get some more headroom and punch, I think I should rework the preamp I use on this marshall. My last builds have been too weak.
I really enjoyed having my mesa bass 400 when I did, the cathodes on the input stage are bypassed with 50uF cabs. I think using 0.1uF coupling caps, plate driven tone stack, and attenuating the highs a little here and there will give the illusion of mega low end at any volume.
I thought since I'll be using KT88/6550 anyways maybe I could push the A and B+ voltages for some more output.

This is in the same range as the UL Hammond 120W 30Hz. That's likely enough for guitar through a Major not sure for bass? Does Edcor make stuff this size? Other than MC & Edcor any other OT in this league will be really pricey. True Rock & Roll was way better when things were big and heavy but I'd scale it back like everyone else said.
If you must why not run it by heyboer, I bet they got a Major set on file, they're not as cheap as the others but their pricing is honest, can't hurt to ask.

Weber is as cheap as it gets. I don't think PT is that important as long as it can provide the power reliably.

Scroll down towards the bottom and look for WPT100, it's $75. for the Marshall 100W.
