Wondering if any one has any experience running Tung-Sol 6V6-GT in a redplate blackverb?
Henry recommends EH's and i could go that way, but i am able to get a matched pair of Tung-Sol's at a good price right now here in New Zealand.
Plate voltage in the blackverb is about 430-450ish..

Why is Henry recommending running 6V6 in this amp it's a 50w amp?

In its cathode bias position the manufacturer says you can run V6s!
Yes, the EH tubes will take the reduced plate voltage in the cathode bias, or 450 volts In the fixed bias setting just fine and the tung sol tubes are the same Russian made tube as the EH!
And just as a side note I have run JJ 6Vs at 500 volts in a Highwatt 50 with no issues and taken the amps rms power down from 60 to 29 or 18 watts dependent on the speaker load used!

Wow that amp is completely different then the Blackverb I owned, mine was probably custom build for me since the faceplate and back plates are so different.

I prefer the Tungsol 6v6's over the EH. They have proven very durable and great sounding. They are not the same as the EH.

Good to know Billy. I always liked the EHs, but maybe we'll give the TSs a go.

I have personally used most of the 6v6's out there. They are my favorite power tube. Nothing compares to a set of NOS Tungsols or RCA's. The jj's are rugged and handle higher dissapation, they seem fairly durable as well. But for my money I would choose the RI Tungsols over any other modern production 6v6 for the tone and they are just as durable in anything under 420 VDC. I have closely examined them as well and they are constructed differently than the EH.
I bias them as a 14 w tube, usually around 22-24ma in a fixed bias amp running 400+ volts.
