totally off topic, but anyone ever played a Bogner Shiva?

Post by Funkalicousgroove »

Fellas,

I feel so silly about this being that i haven't purchased a guitar amp in a NUMBER of years, but 3 nights ago I was in a local used gear shop and I decided I'd try out a used bogner shiva that they had- MAN O MAN what a cool tone!! It was like everything I ever wanted a plexi to be!!

I actually ended up buying it (I know, I know). Do any of you have a service schematic for one?

At first I was confused and thought this post was occuring on the Gear Page or else someone was playing a joke here. Then I see it's you Funk!!! It must have been real hard to pay for a PCB amp knowing you could make your own and do it PTP. Therefore I have to conclude, the Shiva must be a damn nice sounding amp. I hope you enjoy it!! Post a clip if you can. Sorry I can't help with a scheme, never seen one around.

I agree. I've looked high and low and even had a friend who bought a brand new Shiva years ago contact Bogner. No schematic anywhere.

So I guess it's up to you to reverse engineer this amazing amp. :D

AFAFIK you'll have a hard time getting a schematic from Bogner.
I've tried via the Italian importer to get one and the answer ( to the importer) has been: if you have a good technician, he'll fix it anyway!
True but time consuming.
Finally after reverse enginnering an xtc I also made for a customer a sort of clone preamp from that ( actually a 3 channel one but with and additional master volume on the 3rd channel) and it's sounding excellent, although was made on breadboard and it was ugly lookin'
In any case bogner shiva is a great amp, and once again it demonstrates that a well made pcb amp is not that bad.
Ciao

There is actually some mod for this thing that gives you a 2nd volume in the boost mode, the guys at Bogner were total DICKS when I called them yesterday, because I bought the amp used- I mean JEEZ it's not like I was asking for warranty service, I offered to pay their tech his normal hourly rate to tell me how to perform the mod myself so I didn't have to wait 6 friggin weeks, I was like Man I'm totally not going to electrocute myself, and I did buy one of your amps, the guy was like_ Well, you bought a used amp-- Like that matters, I wasn't LOOKING for a bogner, I just FOUND a bogner.

At any rate, if any of you are techs that have any experience with these please get in touch!

Hey - I played one and almost bought it myself. It was a really sweet amp. It was the 112 with the cabinet back able to be opened up, or closed. Used gear at Wildwood Guitars.

I thought it sounded really good! Channel switching worked great, and I liked the modern rock sound it had. Just a bit edgy though... but not bad. I was playing a PRS soapbar through it. The cleans were really good, and I thought they balanced well with the other channel.

And then I went to a music store down the street (Rob's music in Boulder), and bought a blonde 310 vibroking, on the spot, all memory of the shiva disippating to the sound of a tele in a vibroking, which is just incredibly good stuff. Otherwise, I would've bought the shiva that day.

I'll loop back around and pick up a shiva one day too. Heck, I want to own one of every great amp made!

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE PURCHASE!

Yes, and it's one of the best stores in the US, and they don't even rake you on prices (and with the quality of gear they land, they would be justified)! Bruce landed me a fender custom shop carved top strat, number 009 (no kidding), for all of 1200.00. About 7 years ago they sold me a '76 manuel contreras cedar top 1a... price? 1000.00. Unreal.

They're also the best gibson dealer this side of the mississippi with a huge inventory of Custom/Historic guitars! I Can't say enough good about them.

As long as we are off topic...All this talk about Denver music stores is making me really miss the place. I lived there for a few years until 1983. I played 6 nights/week in a band and did guitar repairs for Prosound Music which was on S. Colorado Blvd. I also learned how to fix amps from my friend Doc who did the amp repairs in our little hole in the wall shop behind the store. I had a '60 Strat, a plywood Marshall slanted cab and a Legend hybrid head. Played at some place called "Mr. Lucky's" a lot.

All this has absolutely nothing to do with amps except that the guy with the best tone in Denver at the time was this guy named Peter who played in a band called "The Quick". I think he had a JTM-45. I could go on, but I won't. It's just that I had a great day inside my Dumble clone and I am all fired up because I got that amp to give up some righteous tone that has been eluding me for weeks. You know what I am talking about...

I have been looking ... searching .. wishing .. hoping.

I have not seen anything laid out for a Komet 60 or Concorde that is as detailed as some of the other amps.

Being relatively new, I need it spelled out :) .. Schematic, layout, BOM, tranny specs and source.

Do these exist and I have just missed them ???
